Russia and the Assad Regime resumed its brutal campaign after a 10-day ceasefire that allowed thousands of civilians to leave the last opposition stronghold in Ghouta, a suburb outside of Damascus. Ghouta is also where Assad first used chemical weapons on civilians in August of 2014. It’s where Obama drew his now infamous redline that he never enforced.
This comes on the heels of President Trump indicating that he is ready to leave Syria. People will question if this is a test for Trump. It absolutely is. The body count will rise and if the president doesn’t respond, they will test him in other ways such as taking another stab at Deir Ezzor where mercenaries loyal to Assad were humiliated.

The U.S. State Department has issued a statement of the chemical weapons attack in Syria. State Department Spokeswoman Heather Nauert noted,
“The regime’s history of using chemical weapons against its own people is not in dispute, and in fact nearly one year ago on April 4, 2017, Assad’s forces conducted a sarin gas attack on Khan Sheikhoun, which killed approximately 100 Syrians.”
She did however fail to mention that last the White House Responded with launching 59 Tomahawks at Bashar al Assad’s military instillation. Clearly, that wasn’t effective enough.
The statement mentioned Russia by named claiming “Russia has breached its commitments to the United Nations as a framework guarantor.” and “The United States calls on Russia to end this unmitigated support immediately and work with the international community to prevent further, barbaric chemical weapons attacks.”
Secretary of Defense James Mattis has indicated the sarin is a bridge too far for the Trump administration but did not go into detail.
The death toll has reason to 70 and it is yet unclear what, if any, barring these events will have on President Trump’s desires to leaves Syria.
