Folks, for all of you relying on House “conservatives” to save us from becoming an open borders utopia just know that we’ve got a serious problem.  I sincerely thought that, although there is some disagreement over what to do with those here from the second great wave of illegal immigration, all Republicans would unite to stop Obama’s egregious facilitation of a third great invasion.  Sadly, Congressman Mick Mulvaney (R-SC) is hell-bent on giving Obama a clear lane.

As thousands of illegals rush the Texas border and are dumped into Arizona, it is appalling to watch the utter insouciance from most Republicans.  But on some level, it would be better for Republicans to remain silent than to be a full-fledged foot solider for Obama’s left-wing open borders agenda like Mick Mulvaney.  I’ve heard for some time that Mulvaney had been whipping votes for a potential pre-recess amnesty bill, but now Breitbart News confirms it:

There’s only a few weeks left until the summer recess swallows Congress’ legislative agenda for 2014, but a group of key Republicans haven’t given up immigration quite yet.

Helping guide a secretive effort to informally gauge support for legislative action on the issue before August are two expected names: Reps. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) and Paul Ryan (R-WI).

But joining them is a young conservative lawmaker whose efforts on the issue have shocked conservative power brokers and prompted a behind-the-scenes backlash.

“Absolutely,” Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC) told Breitbart News, “I have been talking about immigration with my colleagues for months. Talking about important issues is part of my job.”

And in case you thought his version of immigration reform was solving the issues that are broken, such as porous borders and public charge immigration, you will be disappointed by what Mulvaney said earlier this year:

“Immigration is not a simple issue. There are at least three major parts of it: there’s border security, legal immigration, and the status of the 11 million, 15 million, 30 million … pick a number – it’s the status of the folks who are here illegally. People say, ‘oh, comprehensive reform is a bad idea.’ Ok? But, unless you deal with all three of those you haven’t dealt with immigration,” Mulvaney said.

“There are jobs that American citizens will not do. There are jobs that American citizens will not do. We can talk about why that is. We can talk about how our welfare state is broken, how we encourage people not to work, but that doesn’t help the farmer pick his peaches this summer. We have businesses that rely on migrant – legal – migrant workers, and a lot of them are in this state,” he added.

We have a record number of legal immigrants, illegal immigrants, and guest workers, yet somehow that is never enough.  And somehow this contrived demand requires us to help Obama pass amnesty at a time when we should be preventing a new wave of illegal immigration – assuming Mr. Mulvaney even desires to do so.  Moreover, even if you buy into the argument about a labor shortage, mass importation of slave labor without implementation of visa tracking and reforming birthright citizenship, will ensure that they will stay here on a permanent basis, have American-born children and drain the welfare state.  Oh, and inevitably, they will vote Democrat.

More disturbingly, Mr. Mulvaney’s juxtaposition of the welfare state to the farmer is quite peculiar. The reason these Agriculture interests want to turn this country into a third-world nation is precisely so they can pay workers slave wages.  Well, it is those slave wages that will force taxpayers to pay the tab in the form of welfare, education, and healthcare.  So yes, we must talk about fixing the broken welfare system before any immigration liberalization.  Otherwise, we wind up with this.

It’s become clear that Mulvaney us not just dissenting from conservatives on one issue; he has made his business to stick his thumb in the eyes of the grassroots in the same model as Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC).  During the debate over the farm bill, Mulvaney openly warred with Heritage Action and accusing them of opposing a bill they originally supported.  At the time, Heritage warned that although the House agreed to sever food stamps from farm subsidies, they would be added back into the conference bill.  They also warned that the new agriculture programs would be even more expensive than the ones under current law.  They were proven right on both accounts.  Yet, Mulvaney’s boisterous voice of dissent was not used to offer an apology.

Many conservatives from “Red America” are living under a false sense of security, assuming that their members are fighting for them in Washington in the way they promised on the campaign trail.  Mick Mulvaney is just the latest example of how quickly the #PotomacMentalDisorder turns a conservative into a Lindsey Graham.

There will always be healthy disagreements among conservatives on some policy issues, but whipping votes for this at a time when Obama is completely lawless is already entering Lindsey Graham territory.  How about uniting Republicans by whipping support for bills forcing the administration to uphold our sovereignty as a nation?
