The DNC Is Having Its 'Modern Audience' Moment

The entertainment industry got this idea in its head that the current era of consumers were of a particular taste, namely one that loved political correctness, inclusivity, feminism, and having their expectations subverted at every turn. You'd often hear them speak of a "modern audience," and it was this audience that they were consistently creating content for.

The thing is, the "modern audience" wasn't real. It was an illusion fashioned from online chatter, focus groups, and most importantly, an ideological bubble that overwhelmed studios of every kind, and one that made preaching "the message" (cue drunken Scottish echo) to be a social responsibility.

Fewer and fewer people showed up for movies, and it culminated in the box office bomb that was Disney's 2025 live-cation remake of "Snow White," which bombed so hard that Nagasaki thought it was a bit much.

Too soon?

The point is, the "modern audience" is a lie, and it's a lie that cost the entertainment industry billions of dollars, and audiences far and wide.

Apparently, the DNC isn't paying too much attention to what was happening in one of its own branches, because it's making the same exact mistake by attempting to create a party more geared toward that "modern" mentality.

As I wrote on Wednesday, Democrat voters are of the opinion that the party needs to go even further to the left:

A poll from SurveyUSA addressed this question directly. The poll, which took place April 2-6 with 859 Republicans and 885 Democrats, found that among Democrats, 50% wanted the party to “become more progressive,” while only 24% said “stay the same” and 18% said “become more moderate.” Republicans were slightly more satisfied with the state of their party, with 40% saying it should be more conservative and 44% saying it should stay the same.

As I speculated in the article, I'm not entirely sure the conclusion the left should reach is that it should do that, despite his polling. It needs to remember that Donald Trump won the 2024 election handily, and that's because both Independents and moderate Democrats made the choice to vote R, with many identifying as Republican now that the dust has settled, and the Democrat Party has become something these voters can no longer identify with.

Now, Nick Arama reported that David Hogg, the DNC's vice-chair, is going after Democrats who aren't displaying that modern mentality:

[Hogg] acknowledged “there are going to be people who are very, very upset about this” but argued Democrats “are in a crisis right now,” citing a recent CNN poll that found the party’s approval rating at 29 percent, a record low for the party.

“Our base is craving dramatic change,” Hogg said. “We need to show our base we’re here to fight for them. We need to show there are younger faces stepping up.”

What a fabulous strategy, I really hope they keep it up, because here's what's going to happen.

The DNC is going to create what effectively amount to purity tests, coming down hard on anyone who doesn't match up to the hard-left's expectations or definitions of what makes a Democrat. This is going to further alienate voters, as they're effectively told they're not worthy of being allies.

This alienation is actually a pretty common thing that Democrats engage in, and it's part of the reason why Donald Trump became so popular. Hillary Clinton's "deplorables" comment sparked so many middle fingers that they couldn't be counted.

Hogg also made it clear that there needs to be a youthful injection into the party. He wants to make room for "younger faces." While there's nothing wrong with fresh faces and the youth becoming involved, it does become a problem when a certain standard is set, and not necessarily in age... you just have to agree with everything the young people agree with, and that itself can be an issue.

Inexperience, modern education, and the gumption of youth can really trip up someone's perception of reality and cause them to make stupid decisions. I can point to AOC as a prime example of how being a youth isn't a virtue in and of itself. Moreover, the leftist youth is prone to radicalism, which is only going to alienate the party further from everyone else.

I could even point to Hogg, who hasn't had a good idea since he arrived on the scene by the blood of his classmates, and has only failed upward thanks to being the puppet the Democrat Party needed him to be. I think it's kind of hilarious that he's now eating the hand that fed him.

And like all of Hogg's ideas, this one will fail too because, as I stated earlier in this piece, the audience he thinks is out there isn't there. He's making the Hollywood mistake of thinking the audience he's looking for is just behind the door, waiting to be let in... but there's no one there.

Just to give you an idea of how not there they are, I'll refer you to two recent bits of information.

First, polls are showing that Trump's approval remains high and people believe he's on the right track.

Then, there's this interesting tidbit that shows the divide in party affiliation primarily comes from the sexes.

This is interesting because it points to the audience Hogg believes he's catering to is mostly female, and one of the huge issues of the 2024 election was the absence of men amongst the voters. As I made a video detailing at the time, the Democrats knew at the DNC that masculinity was in short supply and it wasn't having a great effect on the party.

Hogg is effectively doubling down on the absence of masculinity by creating a party more radicalized toward positions "modern audiences" apparently like.

I've spent the last couple of weeks saying that the Democrat Party is going to radicalize itself into irrelevance, and it continues to prove me right.
