Travis Kelce Apologizes for Treatment of Chiefs Coach After Being Chided by Brother Jason Kelce

It was a moment that will live in infamy for Travis Kelce but now, we have an apology for it.

On their "New Heights" podcast, the Kelce brothers Travis and older brother, Philidelphia Eagles Center Jason, were discussing the moment when Travis lost his composure and got physical with Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid. It was one that many, including Chiefs fans, didn't take well to.

During the podcast, Jason led off the segment by chiding his little brother for his behavior.

"You crossed a line," said the elder Kelce. "I think we can both agree on that."

Travis admitted that getting that "fired up" in the moment isn't something he should be doing.

"And let's be honest, the yelling in his face, too, is over the top," added Jason. "I think there's better ways to handle this."

Travis went on to say he loves Reid and that if Reid retires for any reason, he'd be out as well as he refuses to play for anyone else. The Chiefs tight end added that he immediately wished he could take it back after he did it and said that directly afterward, Reid approached him and said that while he appreciates Travis's passion he can't do that, especially with so many cameras watching. It was a moment that made Travis want to go out and play harder for Reid.

"Big Red, sorry if I caught you with that cheap shot, baby," said Travis, "but damn, I love winning with you."

Travis added that if Reid ever comes at him in a similarly hot manner, he'd deserve it.

Jason broke it all down afterward, saying that this doesn't excuse what Travis did, but that this is the result of highly motivated individuals in the heat of a big moment. He also added that this moment wouldn't have happened if Travis and Reid weren't so close. Travis added that he wasn't mad at Reid, but angry and feeling helpless on the sideline as his team was failing.

While Kelce's apology is good for Reid to have, as I've written previously, this isn't necessarily a one-time ordeal for him. Kelce is known for going off and throwing equipment when the chips are down and he's feeling frustrated. In fact, I predicted this exact response would happen but doubted that it would force Kelce to change his behavior in the future when the moment gets heated:

Then they'll watch him smile and wave at the cameras, kiss his superstar girlfriend, and continue receiving accolades and praise from every media personality under the sun. He'll take responsibility for his actions on "New Heights" with his brother admonishing him, then go back out and do it again.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong and Kelce does watch his behavior in the future, but I'm not entirely sure I can trust that. He's given nobody a reason to trust that at all.

Regardless, I can at least say it's good that Kelce has an older brother who doesn't let him get away without acknowledging what he did wrong and that he needs to own up to it. For all intents and purposes, the Kelce family seems like a great group of people and sometimes, when you veer off course, a good family can put you back on the right track.

Let's hope in the future, Kelce calms it down and uses his better judgment.
