For a “trained Marxist,” Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors has very expensive taste in homes, which is pretty characteristic for “Marxists.” However, the backlash coming at her for her purchases is mounting, and now one of her old rivals, a New York activist, is demanding she be audited.
According to the Daily Caller, Hank Newsome is the leader of an organization called “Black Lives Matter Greater New York, which is unaffiliated with the Black Lives Matter national movement. Cullors has sent Newsome cease-and-desist letters telling him to stop using the BLM name for his organization, but even Black Lives Matter doesn’t have the rights to the name.
“If you go around calling yourself a socialist, you have to ask how much of her own personal money is going to charitable causes,” Newsome told the New York Post on Sunday. “It’s really sad because it makes people doubt the validity of the movement and overlook the fact that it’s the people that carry this movement.”
Newsome urged that “black firms and black accountants” should audit Cullors’ BLM Global Network Foundation in order to “find out where the money is going.”
Still, the national BLM entity wants to focus on Newsome’s illegitimacy as a BLM activist.
“Only BLM chapters who adhere to BLM’s principles and code of ethics are permitted to use the BLM name,” said Sean Wherley of the communications firm We Are Rally.
Newsome brushed off that claim.
“So the issue has become my affiliation and not the use of funds,” Newsome told the Daily Caller. “Interesting.”
Newsome has been using the name “Black Lives Matter” since 2016, according to business records obtained by the DCNF, and mixed with the fact that Black Lives Matter does not have legal rights over the phrase due to it being a political slogan, the claim against Newsome is illegitimate.
“This movement belongs to the people,” Newsome said. “It is for the people and by the people. It is the people that take to the streets and march in the name of BLM. No one has ownership of that. It is the equivalent of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. claiming ownership of the civil rights movement.”
Cullors’ Black Lives Matter released a statement claiming that the reports of her buying multi-million dollar homes is a part of a “right-wing offensive” that “puts Patrisse, her child and her loved ones in harm’s way” and “continues a tradition of terror by white supremacists against black activists.”
What proof that this was an attack by white supremacists was not given.
Go figure.
