The Salvation Army has probably done more to help people in need than someone like a “committed philanthropist” like Ellie Goulding could. Yet, here we have Goulding, a box blond pop star, making a holier-than-thou based demand of the Salvation Army as if she’s the more morally superior of the two.
How did Goulding get to the point where she thought she could threaten the Salvation Army. The quick answer is the same answer that usually pops up as an explanation for when someone does something extremely asinine.
She was confronted with the mob and their heaviest hammer, “Cancel Culture.”
Goulding happily announced that she would be performing during the halftime show during the Dallas Cowboy’s game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Thanksgiving. She said that she was thankful toward the Salvation Army, who was working with her during the halftime show to kick off their “Red Kettle Campaign.”

She even posted about how much good work the Salvation Army does in a second Instagram post.
This, of course, triggered the LGBT mob which came at Goulding in force, their societal “ban hammer” held aloft. Goulding immediately buckled, curled into a ball, and began screaming “not the face.”
βUpon researching this, I have reached out to The Salvation Army and said that I would have no choice but to pull out unless they very quickly make a solid, committed pledge or donation to the LGBTQ community,β Goulding replied. βI am a committed philanthropist as you probably know, and my heart has always been in helping the homeless, but supporting an anti-LGBTQ charity is clearly not something I would ever intentionally do. Thank you for drawing my attention to this.β
It’s rich that Goulding would take such a position as she did. Her horse isn’t as high as she thinks it is, and if she did do any research (I doubt it) then she would have found out that this anti-LGBT narrative was prompted with a viral meme that made a lot of claims about the Salvation Army while providing zero facts to back it up.
The most upsetting part about this is that the Salvation Army’s primary goal is to make sure that those who are poor, destitute, starving, and freezing have what they need to survive and stay afloat. This includes members of the LGBT community. The Salvation Army does not discriminate as it is “antithetical to the Salvation Army’s existence” according to one of the chapters who addressed accusations of being anti-LGBT directly.
In fact, my colleague Kira Davis went in-depth as to how much the Salvation Army has helped people of the LGBT persuasion and you should read her article and give it a read. You’ll quickly see that this organization as probably helped more LGBT people than some LGBT causes.
However, the LGBT activists and its mob don’t seem to care about those people and have made it clear that what’s most important is showing support for what goes on in a bedroom behind closed doors. To be clear, they seem to believe support for gay sex is far more important than feeding and clothing the poor.
If I could make a quick recommendation to the Salvation Army…
Tell Goulding to go kick rocks.
Explain, once again, that the Salvation Army isn’t discriminatory in who it helps, but add also that one of the greatest charities in the land will not be bullied into directing its money to wherever the mob demands. Put the onus of the decision on whether or not Goulding will be helping the poor on Thanksgiving directly on Goulding and tell her that she can either be there to help raise money for the poor, or she can go be a “committed philanthropist” with the outrage mob she’s chosen to side with.
And believe me, that mob isn’t there to help anyone.
If they’re taking my advice, I’d make it clear that they shouldn’t make any donations to any LGBT group, but continue doing what they’re doing to help the LGBT community naturally. Let your work speak for itself. The mob won’t give you props for a damn thing, no matter what you do. Caving to them will only prove that you can be controlled and that rarely works out in favor of the organization.
Stay strong and let the outrage mob rage on. Trust me, they’ll quickly get distracted. They’re more like children throwing a temper tantrum than actual activists. Once another organization does something that irks them, they’ll forget all about you.
My hope is that this will start a pattern of people ignoring the outrage mob to the point where we don’t give them any mind anymore.
In the meantime, I’d like to apologize to the world for buying Ellie Goulding songs a few years ago. If I had known this was a part of her character makeup, I wouldn’t have contributed money to her work.
