Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) seems to believe that illegal immigrants are voters that she needs to look after within her district, and openly called them her “constituents” during a congressional campaign hearing.
While questioning Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross during a House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing on Thursday, AOC was quoting Republican Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach that illegal aliens are still provided congressional apportionment services, which he called a problem.
Ocasio-Cortez added that these illegal aliens reside in her district, and are thus her constituents.
“Mr. Kobach later emailed to you on July 14 writing that the lack of the citizenship question ‘leads to the problem that aliens who do not actually reside in the United States are still counted for congressional apportionment services,’” she said.
“Of course they do reside in the United States. They reside in my district. They’re my constituents,” she added.
She couldn’t be more wrong.
Webster’s Dictionary defines a “constituency” as “a body of citizens entitled to elect a representative (as to a legislative or executive position). As illegals aren’t “entitled to elect a representative” then they are not her constituency as much as she would like them to be.
Once again, Ocasio-Cortez proves she lives in dream land.
She’s not the only one who does, however. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called Dreamers her constituency back in September of 2017. After talking about how much Dreamers have done for our country, she urged that Dreamers must be saved before referring to them as voters.
“The constituency is there for our country,” added Pelosi. “Its success will lead to other success.”
Democrats suggesting that those who have no right to vote in this nation are voters. What a surprise.
