The recriminations over last week’s election losses have begun on the left, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is none too happy about who is shouldering the blame.

On that topic, James Carville recently levied an uncomfortable truth regarding “wokeness,” an ideology that may have started on the far-left but has firmly made its way into the mainstream of the Democrat Party. According to Carville, “stupid wokeness” not only affected the outcome in Virginia but also in elections across the country.

“Well, what went wrong is this stupid wokeness,” ​Carville said. “Don’t just look at Virginia and New Jersey,” he added of the Garden State, where Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy barely eked out a second term.

“Look at Long Island, look at Buffalo, look at Minneapolis. Even look at Seattle, Wash. I mean, this ‘defund the police’ lunacy, this ‘take Abraham Lincoln’s name off of schools,’ that — people see that,” he ​said, adding that progressives should check into a “woke detox center.”​

The mention of Buffalo by Carville is a veiled shot at Ocasio-Cortez, whose Democrat Socialist endorsed candidate got blown out by a write-in campaign. The mentions of Minneapolis and Seattle are also prudent as shifts away from woke politics delivered stunning rebukes to the far left last Tuesday. Certainly, the facts are with Carville, who also sounded this alarm about woke politics in 2020 when Bernie Sanders appeared to be cruising to the nomination.

For her part, Ocasio-Cortez took to social media to lambast Carville from the comfortable confines of her deep-blue district.

“Like the average audience for people seriously using the word ​’​woke​’​ in a 2021 political discussion are James Carville and Fox News pundits so that should tell you all you need to know​,” the New York Democrat posted on Twitter.​​

She went on to blame Carville, who managed Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign, for causing divisions among Democrats by using words like “woke.”

​”​And before people disingenuously complain ‘woke’ is denigrating to older people, it’s actually pundits like Carville using terms like ‘woke’ to insult voters under 45 that’s denigrating,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on social media.   

“​Don’t wonder why youth turnout falls when Dems talk about them like this. We need everyone​,” she said. ​

Perhaps I’m not up on politics as much as I think I am, but I’m pretty sure the term “woke” was coined by the far-left. To the extent that “Fox News pundits” use it today, that’s because Ocasio-Cortez and her radical cohorts made it a thing. To now claim it is derogatory to call them that is some galaxy-brain stuff, yet completely on-brand for the congresswoman from Queens.

There’s also another fallacy shared by Ocasio-Cortez, which is the idea that if you just lean far enough into far-left politics, that the “youth” vote will finally turn out to deliver decisive victories. She might as well be proclaiming that if you clap your hands three times and touch your nose a unicorn will appear.

Ocasio-Cortez would also go on to call it “dangerous” for Democrats to run from “racial justice” issues.

“Woke” is a term pundits are now using as a derogatory euphemism for civil rights & justice.

This is part of the problem for Democrats. They have a large contingent of their party that has convinced themselves they hold such moral superiority on “justice” issues that if they don’t get their way, they are being put in actual danger. Ocasio-Cortez may have the emotional maturity of a five-year-old, but she’s not some fringe figure. Look at Terry McAuliffe, the once moderate who was talking about having too many white teachers in the final days of his failing campaign. “Wokeness” is pervasive on the left, and from the White House on down it has become a staple for Democrats.

Ocasio-Cortez’s solution is simply to double down on what didn’t work, insisting that beating her head against the wall a little harder will eventually bring it down. That’s great for Republicans, but it represents another point of doom for Democrats as we speed towards 2022.
