With Friends Like These: Book Claims Obama Worked Behind Scenes to Kneecap Kamala's Presidential Chances

If you’re a Democrat these days, it must be tough knowing who to trust. We saw Rep. Nancy Pelosi (CA) team up with Sen. Chuck Schumer (NY) to nuke Joe Biden’s reelection effort and force him out of the race, we saw actor George Clooney write an op-ed calling for Ole Joe to step down, and we saw Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (NY) stay as far away as he could from the then-commander-in-chief.

These are all longtime friends and supporters of the former president, but when the going got tough, the weak got going.

Another figure who was behind the scenes figuratively stabbing Biden in the back was his one-time boss, former President Barack Obama, who in private voiced his doubts about Biden’s mental capacities and who many feel encouraged Clooney to write that devastating op-ed.

It turns out Obama wasn’t just kneecapping Biden—he also reportedly worked to derail Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign before it even started. The unsurprising but still telling information comes from a forthcoming book by reporter and author James Allen called “FIGHT: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House," and he alleges that Obama didn’t want Harris to get the spot and worked for an open primary:

"President Obama absolutely did not think that Joe Biden should continue, according to our sources close to President Obama," Allen told MSNBC. "And he also didn’t want Kamala Harris to be the replacement for Biden. He didn’t think that she was the best choice for Democrats, and he worked really behind the scenes for a long time to try to have a mini-primary, or an open convention, or a mini-primary leading to an open convention, did not have faith in her ability to win the election…"
"As it turned out, she didn’t win, but he was really working against her," Allen continued.

Allen also appeared on Fox News with Jesse Watters Monday and made similar remarks:

Perhaps Obama’s most notable undercutting of Harris came just after Biden agreed to step down. Although the then-president quickly endorsed Harris as his successor, Barack and Michelle at first refused and then waited a full five days to follow suit. Five days might not sound like a lot, but it was a crucial time, and it caused many to question whether Harris was qualified for the job (hint: she wasn't). That move alone might have sealed the deal for her eventual loss.
