An illegal alien has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 25-year-old woman in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The revelation was first reported by The Midwesterner, which identified the victim as 25-year-old Ruby Garcia and the suspect as Brandon Ortiz-Vite, also 25.
The outlet reported:
An illegal immigrant is awaiting arraignment on an open murder charge after he allegedly killed a young woman whose body was left on U.S. 131 in downtown Grand Rapids. Michigan State Police continue to investigate the details that led to the body of a deceased female discovered on the roadway of southbound U.S. 131 and Leonard Street with apparent gunshot wounds around 11:38 p.m. on Friday.
...Michigan State Police would not release any information on the suspect, but did confirm the suspect is now in custody. Kent County Jail records show Ortiz-Vite was booked in on March 24, and he’s expected to be arraigned within 48 hours – likely late Monday or Tuesday, officials said.
Ortiz-Vite faces one count each of homicide/open murder, carjacking, felony firearm, illegally carrying a concealed weapon, operating while intoxicated, and driving on a suspended or revoked license, records show.
Speaking to the news outlet, Ruby's sister Mavi Garcia described her as a great person:
She would brighten up the room with her beautiful smile and laugh. She loved to travel, was dedicated to her work and enjoyed being with her family on her free time.
She was a great daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She will be remembered as being full of life and laughter, those who were around her would know she was silly and made everyone laugh. Her loss has impacted the lives of many people. Her life was taken too soon. She deserved to live life, travel the world, have kids and follow her dreams.
Garcia declined to provide information about their relationship, but noted that "he is currently in custody that’s all we know as of right now and he is/was here illegally.” The family are currently raising funds for Mavi's funeral on GoFundMe.

It is unclear when Ortiz-Vite entered the United States illegally, what country he came from or whether he had been granted any temporary immigration status by authorities. Although Michigan is not a sanctuary state, its Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer has repeatedly made clear that she wants to welcome more illegals into the state.
The case just over a month after the murder of Laken Riley, a nursing student in Georgia who muredered while out running by Jose Antonio Ibarra, a 26-year-old illegal alien from Venezuela. Despite previously being arrested for child abuse, Ibarra had been released by authorities.
Last week, Laken's father Jason gave an address in front of the Georgia State Senate in which he pleaded with politicians to do more to stop the "invasion" of illegals along the southern border.
"Governor Kemp, please declare an invasion to detain and deport criminal illegals so we can prevent future families from those tragedies," Jason said. "Hundreds of women and children each month… are being smuggled, coerced, and trafficked in our state. They are victims, just like Laken. I thank you for honoring Laken in this way, and I humbly ask you to do more to protect us."
