President Donald Trump, who was meeting with the Italian prime minister at the time of the shooting, said that it's "horrible that things like this take place, adding he had been "fully briefed" on the federal response to the tragedy and the White House would have "more to say on it later."

The hospital where six victims were taken also released a statement:

They stated that "one patient is in critical condition, and five are in serious condition." Now, local and federal officials have some updated information on what happened in a press conference--and one part of it is very positive, with the earlier reported death toll being scaled back:

Two people were killed, and six others were injured in a shooting at Florida State University (FSU) on Thursday, authorities said.

Police identified the suspected shooter as 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, a student at the school. They also said his mother is a Sheriff's Deputy, and said Ikner used his mother's weapon in the killing. His mother has been an officer for over 18 years and authorities say she has done a "tremendous job."

Tallahassee police told reporters that Ikner has "invoked his right to not speak to us," and that he had used his mother's handgun, a model that the department no longer uses. Ikner also had a shotgun, but did not use it, as far as authorities know.

No officers were killed or injured during the shooting. Police said that no victim information will be released at this time.

Richard D. McCullough, the president of FSU, said that all classes and athletic events have been canceled in the wake of the tragic shooting. Calling it a "deeply emotional time," appearing to fight his own emotions, McCullough said the campus is like a family, and that "community will get through it together." He added that he and his wife had met with students who were recovering in the hospital.

We continue to urge prayers for everyone affected by this senseless event. As this is a developing story. RedState will provide updates as more information becomes available.
