House GOP Demands Answers From DHS, FBI, DOD on Jordanian Nationals Trying to Breach Marine Base

Readers may remember the disturbing story we wrote earlier in May about two illegal aliens, Jordanian nationals, who tried to crash through the gates of the Quantico Marine Corps Base in Virginia, after their cover story of posing as Amazon delivery drivers was challenged by guards.

My colleague Nick Arama wrote about the revelation of the attempted breach on May 17th:

On May 3, two Jordanian nationals pretended to be subcontractors making an Amazon delivery when they drove up to the Fuller Road Gate at Marine Corps Base Quantico in a box truck.

Because the two had no affiliation with the Marine base and no credentials to enter it, military police officers directed them to go to a holding area to undergo standard vetting procedures, according to Curtis. But the driver blew past the holding area and attempted to drive onto the base.

Officers put up the vehicle denial barriers, blocking the truck from getting any farther onto the base, and detained the pair. [....]

Potomac Local News, which first reported the attempted breach, reported hearing from multiple unnamed sources that one of the truck’s occupants was a Jordanian national who had recently crossed the southern border into the United States and that one occupant was on the U.S. government’s terrorist watch list.

Arama continued: "They were turned over to ICE, and ICE sources confirmed to Fox News that both suspects are Jordanian nationals."

But both ICE and White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre refused to budge when pressed for more details, including whether one of them was a suspected terrorist.

That might change. On Thursday, the House Homeland Security Committee sent a letter to the heads of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and the Department of Defense (DOD), demanding answers about the serious threat on U.S. soil to our nation's security:

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green said the incident reflects a “terrifying reality” about the border, where an unprecedented number of people on the terrorism watchlist have been detected trying to sneak into the U.S. from Mexico.

“This brazen attempt shows we are in an even more dire situation than many want to admit, and that eventually, the consequences of these potential national security threats running loose in our country will come back to haunt us...."

...

He and three of his subcommittee chairs fired off a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, FBI Director Christopher A. Wray and Defense Secretary Austin Lloyd demanding to know what, exactly, happened at Quantico and who the two men really are.

The letter continued:

"If individuals on the terrorist watchlist are so emboldened to attempt to breach a Marine Corps base, the Department of Homeland Security and the entire executive branch must act swiftly to identify, apprehend, and detain such hostile actors on American soil."

The letter also highlighted that this is far from the first time the committee members were concerned by "hostile foreign nationals" being allowed free rein inside the country, or the stonewalling by Mayorkas and Wray about it:

“The Committee previously expressed concern to you about hostile foreign nationals released into the United States in a September 19, 2023, letter, requesting information about possible breaches of U.S. military installations and critical infrastructure. The Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation failed to provide any substantive response."

This is a developing story, and RedState will provide further details as they become available.
