On Friday, podcast host Dave Rubin had strong words for the CDC.
Appearing on Fox News, the commentator asserted America’s premiere disease controller’s been stricken by a disease itself.
As covered by RedState’s Streiff, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky recently named a national health threat that can’t be detected by a lab:
The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the death of over 500,000 Americans. Tens of millions have been infected. And across this country people are suffering. Importantly, these painful experiences and the impact of COVID-19 are felt, most severely, in communities of color—communities that have experienced disproportionate case counts and deaths, and where the social impact of the pandemic has been most extreme.
Yet, the disparities seen over the past year were not a result of COVID-19. Instead, the pandemic illuminated inequities that have existed for generations and revealed for all of America a known, but often unaddressed, epidemic impacting public health: racism.
What we know is this: racism is a serious public health threat that directly affects the well-being of millions of Americans.
Per Rochelle, a result is the systemic detriment of those who aren’t white:
As a result, it affects the health of our entire nation. Racism is not just the discrimination against one group based on the color of their skin or their race or ethnicity, but the structural barriers that impact racial and ethnic groups differently to influence where a person lives, where they work, where their children play, and where they worship and gather in community. These social determinants of health have life-long negative effects on the mental and physical health of individuals in communities of color.
Over generations, these structural inequities have resulted in stark racial and ethnic health disparities that are severe, far-reaching and unacceptable.
Back to Fox, Dave made his own diagnosis:
“[T]he CDC has now been infected with a virus. But it’s not COVID; it is wokeness.”
Furthermore:
“[O]nce you are infected with wokeness, it basically takes over the host and destroys the organization.”
Rubin referenced reliability:
“Can we trust them at this point?”
How woke is the organization? Well, it’s launched an initiative fighting for “health equity.”
From the official webpage:
At CDC, we are committed to ensuring every person has the opportunity to live a healthy life. To that end, CDC — as the nation’s leading public health agency — has established this web portal, “Racism and Health” to serve as a hub for our activities, promote a public discourse on how racism negatively affects health and communicate potential solutions. Working with the broader public health community, we will serve as a catalyst to further investigate the impact of racism on health and efforts to achieve health equity for all.
Dave’s down on it:
“They are now telling us that, in essence, they are a political organization. They are going to act as a political organization to rearrange society to give us ‘equity’ –which is not guaranteed by the Constitution, equality is — as opposed to dealing with public health [crises] and the pandemic that we’re going through right now. This shouldn’t be surprising because we’ve seen wokeness destroy, basically, every cultural institution we have, every educational institution. So why not our governmental institutions, and even our health institutions? This is just the next step.”
The podcaster posed something potent:
“Can you trust that the CDC is gonna give you the proper information when they’re now telling us that, in effect, the racist problem is now more important than the pandemic problem?”
He answered his own question:
“I don’t think I can trust them.”
It is an unusual move — a federal institution tasked with a medical mission delving into that of a social one.
Such a transition confirms, it seems to me, that politics is permeating — and will permeate — all things.
And unlike the virus, there may be nothing that can slow the spread.
