Every now and then, one comes across such a self-important, sanctimonious, self-righteous nitwit, such an obvious portrayal of the Dunning-Kruger effect, that it makes one's eyes roll so hard you can see the inside of your skull. When that eye-rolling moment comes from a talking head on MSNBC, though, it's anything but surprising - this is, after all, the home of Rachel Maddow.
This time the eye-roll came from a talking head named Alex Witt.
MSNBC correspondent Priya Sridhar was corrected on-air by network anchor Alex Witt on Sunday after using the term "illegal aliens" instead of "undocumented immigrants."
Sridhar reported on active-duty troops being sent to El Paso, Texas to block illegal border crossings and assist in arresting and deporting illegal immigrants. During her segment on "Alex Witt Reports," she shifted to a report on the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) taking nearly 50 illegal immigrants into custody in Colorado.
"I want you guys to take a look at this video that we saw just this morning from the DEA, ATF, and Homeland Security investigators out of the Rocky Mountain Field Division in Colorado," Sridhar said. "There you can see a raid that was conducted this morning. They say that they were targeting a Venezuelan gang, and they were able to see cash, seize cash, weapons and actually made an arrest of ‘50 illegal aliens’ right there, Alex."
"Yes, we call them undocumented immigrants," Witt said. "But that, again, was in the release from the DEA. Okay. Thank you very much, Priya, for that from El Paso."
No. We call them illegal aliens. They are here illegally. They are not American citizens, making them aliens. They are illegal aliens. Enough with the self-righteous horse squeeze. Alex Witt has even run afoul of the Oxford English Dictionary on this one.
illegal alien, n.
A person who is not legally authorized to live or work in their country of residence; cf. illegal immigrant, n.
Seems pretty straightforward, doesn't it?
Here is the exchange in question; make sure you're not drinking anything:

Oh, and as for the illegal aliens in question, they were from a raid on Sunday morning that resulted in the arrest of 50 Tren de Aragua gang members. These are the people who have been terrorizing cities around the country, including Aurora, Colorado, near where these criminals were rounded up.

Honestly, this insistence on "undocumented" has gone past the point where it was absurd and now is just insulting our intelligence. "Undocumented" makes it sound like they had to correct paperwork and just left the house without it; if I leave my driver's license at home while going to town to the post office, you could perhaps call me an "undocumented driver," since I do not have the document showing I'm licensed to operate a motor vehicle on the public roads. I have the documentation, just not with me.
These people are not "undocumented." They are lawbreakers. They broke the law entering the country, you know, illegally, and have broken laws since. They are illegal aliens. They won't be illegal aliens much longer, though, because the Trump administration and the border czar, Tom "The Hammer" Homan, are making sure that they get sent back to where they belong.
That's a big change in policy from the Biden administration, who looked the other way when illegal aliens committed acts of extortion and robbery in Aurora, Colorado, and elsewhere - while insisting on calling them "undocumented." When members of the previous administration were engaged in sucking up communist propaganda, should we be surprised at anything that happened before one week ago today?

MSNBC, of course, is going to keep on MSNBC'ing. Perhaps in the interests of truth in advertising, they should change the network's name to MSNBS.
