In 16 days, President Joe Biden will leave the White House for the last time, and America can breathe a sigh of relief. Joe can toddle off to Rehoboth Beach, or wherever else suits him and his family; it's not like befuddled old Joe is likely to know where he is in any case. As long as he's not in the White House, that's good enough.
The last few weeks of his presidency, though, have some on the left in a tizzy. Oh, Joe hasn't gone all MAGA at the last minute; despite his VP's electoral trouncing, we can be sure that Joe Biden and most of his administration have experienced no road-to-Damascus-style epiphanies, in politics or anything else. However, the outgoing president does seem to have the transgender community a bit concerned, as he is exhibiting insufficient zeal for their causes.
President Joe Biden began his term in the White House with a broad promise to protect transgender Americans against Republican policies that painted them as a threat to children and sought to push them out of public life.
“Your president has your back,” Biden assured trans people in his first State of the Union address in 2021, and he repeated a version of that statement in subsequent speeches.
But with President-elect Donald Trump days away from taking office after piling on transgender people throughout his campaign, some worry Biden did not do enough to shield them from what’s likely to come.
What's likely to come is a return to sanity in many of the specific issues cited in this AP story (linked above).
In his last full month in office, Biden scrapped pending plans to provide protections for transgender student-athletes and signed a bill that includes language stripping coverage of transgender medical treatments for the children of service members.
His actions follow a common strategy in which the outgoing administration rushes through policies or abandons unfinished regulations to prevent the incoming president from retooling them to more quickly advance his own agenda. But some trans people question why Biden let plans that might have better protected them from Trump’s policies sit on the back-burner.
Because those policies are nonsensical and can be actually harmful to the interests not only of American citizens, not only to fundamental fairness in sports but also to the warfighting ability of our armed services and our national security. To appease the squeaky-wheel shoutings of a tiny percentage of the population, the Biden administration and Democrats, in general, have supported policies that the most liberal Democrats only a decade ago would have rightly considered insane.
The Biden administration, however, engaged hip-deep in the insanity.
Biden named trans people to influential positions across his administration, [Imara Jones, a transgender woman who created “The Anti-Trans Hate Machine” podcast] noted. He overturned a Trump-era ban on trans people serving in the military and made it possible for U.S. citizens who do not identify as male or female to select an “X” as the gender marker on their passports.
One of those "trans people" - excuse me, "non-binary people" - it should be noted, was actually charged with theft after it was revealed that he was a serial luggage thief, stealing the bags of other travelers at several airports. Clearly, honesty and ability are not driving these hiring picks; but then, honesty and ability have never been among the Biden administration's strong points.

In 16 days, we will see some return to sanity in these matters. To wit: There are certain things that the "transgender" community shouldn't be able to do.
You shouldn't be able to chemically castrate and surgically mutilate children. Children cannot give fully informed consent; when you see someone claiming to have a "transgender child," it's the same as someone claiming to have a "vegan cat." You know the child or the cat are not the ones making the decision.
You shouldn't be able to place boys or men, no matter what they identify as, on girl's or women's sports teams. This is a hideously unfair practice. Men and boys are larger, stronger, faster, and have more endurance than women and girls, these differences exist before puberty, and hormone treatments do not negate that advantage.
You should not be able to join the military as a permanent physical profile, non-deployable "transgender" service member to soak the taxpayers for your "transgender" treatments. The armed services exist for only one purpose: To protect the liberty and property of the people of the United States. To that end, they have one primary mission: To close with and destroy the enemy by fire, maneuver, and shock effect. The armed forces are not a jobs program for the neurotic. They are warfighters.
The "transgender" community will still be around, and they will still be a squeaky wheel begging for some grease. But the taxpayers will not be on the hook for their transitions, children will be safe from damaging and irreversible chemical/surgical alterations, and our armed services will - must - be once more focused on warfighting.
This may be one of the most hopeful outcomes of last November's election.
