In this goofed-up age we live in, people sometimes say things that you would think they would know better, but it turns out that they don't. You can stare in amazement or you can just chuckle and move on.
In Joe Scarborough's latest odd comments on his early morning MSNBC chat fest, "Morning Joe," he threw a curve ball at the audience and made anyone who was watching wonder if he got enough sleep last night. I'm going to take a guess and say that lately, he doesn't get really much sleep at all. The fear of his beloved Joe Biden losing to Donald Trump (or just losing at all) has probably got him petrified.
Check out what made Scarborough "yawn":
MSNBC host Joe Scarborough is dismissing recent concerns among Democrats about President Biden’s reelectability in 2024.
“Excuse me while I yawn, while Democrats left and right — who, let’s just say it — Democrats who have kicked Joe Biden around for decades, who kicked him around when he was vice president … those same Democrats who said he was toast in 2020 after Iowa and New Hampshire, now they’re saying he’s toast again,” Scarborough said Monday on his morning program.
The former GOP congressman’s quip comes amid growing cries among some Democrats that Biden might not be the party’s strongest option as it looks to defeat former President Trump, the front-runner for the GOP nomination, in 2024.
That's what made you yawn, Joe?
Hell, it would have been much more believable if you had said what the writers had scripted for you and Mika to read as opposed to scoffing at the common sense worry of Joe Biden not being up to the task of being president currently and running for the job in the future.
I know MSNBC and its parent company, NBC News, don't follow the news all that closely, but damn.
My colleague Bonchie pointed out what the average Joe on the street thinks about the job Biden is doing right now.
The Bell Tolls for 'Bidenomics' After Disastrous New Poll
The question of whether one's children will be better off than their parents dates back to 1990 when NBC News first introduced it in its survey. With only 19 percent responding affirmatively, that is the lowest result ever.
As the president would say, "That's Bidenomics."
Bidenomics is not being able to afford a house because interest rates are at eight percent. Bidenomics is paying $14 for a value meal at a fast food joint. Bidenomics is driving your old car into the ground because a new Honda Accord costs so much. Bidenomics is watching your retirement stall out for years at a time because the stock market is so stagnant. Bidenomics is forgoing that planned vacation because airfare is up 40 percent and you've got three kids. Bidenomics is seeing your savings dwindle while you take on a second job just to keep up your standard of living.
Do you know what the great thing is about this compared to other political issues? It's the fact that politicians can't lie about it. Don't get me wrong, the Biden administration is actively trying to, but no one is buying it because again, you can't lie to people about what's in their bank account.
Only 19 percent of those surveyed feel their kids' future will be better than theirs, and Scarborough is yawning about that.
Anybody who knows a lick about politics would take a look at that number and be terrified. I don't begrudge anyone for making millions of dollars a year to be a vapid talking head on the boob tube but figuring out why Democrats are a tad bit worried here is not a massive leap.
Just common sense.
My colleague Nick Arama covered why someone Democrats should listen to — David Axelrod — is concerned, while both Joes — Biden and Scarborough — seem to be suffering from sleep deprivation.
David Axelrod Has More to Say About Biden's Chances - The Powers That Be Should Listen:
My colleague Duke noted how both Axelrod and Biden were right. And as my colleague Bob Hoge reported, when confronted about his remarks about Biden, Axelrod didn't back down, saying he needed to "get out or get going."
However, Axelrod isn't leaving it there. He's continuing to trumpet the coming disaster for Biden, like Gabriel, and not letting Biden's nasty shot stop him from shouting out the truth.
He dished to New York Times Columnist Maureen Dowd on Saturday.
“I think he has a 50-50 shot here, but no better than that, maybe a little worse,” Axelrod proclaimed.
“He thinks he can cheat nature here and it’s really risky. They’ve got a real problem if they’re counting on Trump to win it for them. I remember Hillary doing that, too.” How did that work out for the Democrats?
Martin said that Biden wanted to deny the polls, and Axelrod said he does that at his own risk.
“I don’t care about them thinking I’m a pr**k — that’s fine,” Axelrod told Dowd.
“I hope they don’t think the polls are wrong because they’re not.”
When the polls say that everyone thinks you're too old, and you show — every day — your constant gaffes and incoherence, that's a tough thing to get around. Biden is not getting any younger, and the situation is only going to get worse. If he's already this bad, where he's getting lost on stage and constantly messing things up, how bad will it be if he is reelected? He will be 81 on Nov. 20 and will be 86 by the time he finishes if he occupies the White House a second time, God forbid. Given all the damage he's already done to the economy and our interests here and around the world, I don't know if we could survive that much more of him.
So, I think this choice is pretty clear for those who actually watch the ebb and flow of politics and look at the reality of both what their eyes are seeing and what the voters are saying in the polls. Joe Biden, the 46th president of the United States, is in a world of hurt politically, and he ain't getting any younger.
Of course, Axelrod and a host of other prominent Democrats want to keep the White House next year, and they're looking at Biden's stamina, his speaking ability, and the way he disappears for days at a time and the White House delivers no access to him, and they're thinking this is not going to improve over the next 49 weeks.
It seems like the only Democrat not on the White House payroll who thinks Biden is just dandy is Joe Scarborough. Yeah, yeah, I know the MSNBC tagline with him is he is a former Republican congressman, but he dropped that GOP moniker when he signed on with MSNBC eons ago.
I guess the moral of this story is that one Sleepy Joe is the President of the United States, and the other one is yawning on morning TV, dismissing Democrats who want to hold on to the presidency.
Donald Trump, take note: You need to allocate differing names for both of these Joes who are off their rockers.
