Maybe I’m wrong.
Yup, I said it.
I have stated recently that the rumors that Matthew McConaughey was thinking about running for Governor were just a weee bit of a publicity maneuver to sell books. My colleague here at Red State, Bonchie, covered this story earlier this month RIGHT HERE.
Yet it seems that Mr. McConaughey must actually believe what he is saying being he stuck to his guns about the Illiberal Left in a new interview with our favorite British leftie Pierce Morgan. Will wonders never cease?
From the Insider…
Matthew McConaughey has doubled down on his recent comments about the “illiberal left” during an appearance on ITV’s “Good Morning Britain” with Piers Morgan on Tuesday.
The “Dallas Buyers Club” actor who faced backlash earlier this month for his political commentary defended his position and expressed his concern over the future direction of public debate.
He said: “You need liberals, what I don’t think we need is the illiberals and what I don’t think that some liberals see is that they’re often being cannibalized by the illiberals.
“There are extremes on both sides that I think are unfair that I don’t think are the right place to be. The extreme left and the extreme right completely illegitimize the other side or they exaggerate that side’s stance into an irrational state and that’s not fair when either side does that.”
You don’t actually double down on something you take heat for on the scale McConaughey did unless you are an idiot, or you ACTUALLY believe what you are saying. Now, I just happen to agree with him 100% here that there are extremes on both sides but those on the left really tend to go overboard. The anti-free speech crowd and cancel culture morons that have taken over the left have made them similar to the very fascists they claim to despise and fear.
McConaughey is still at the top of his game as an actor and he is putting his money where his mouth is being the very people he is taking on here are the very ones that will organize to cripple his status in Hollywood. Hell, the majority of these mouth-breathing fools live and work in the entertainment industry and I can already see them boycotting not only going to see a film with McConaughey in it but even refusing to work on one that he is involved in.
Even if he never actually goes through with running for Governor for Texas as he has mentioned giving at least a passing thought to, it is a nice change of pace to have someone from Hollyweird that is not 20 years past their prime telling the nut jobs on the left that they are actually the nut jobs on the left.
The year 2020 has been a dumpster fire with high octane gas fueling it, but if you look hard enough you can find small stories that give you hope. This might not be one of them for you but I’m tired of looking for one so this Lil blurb of hope will suit me fine.
