What happened, other than this world is just getting meaner and stupider?
On Tuesday, in its annual report, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) reported a marked increase in incidents of anti-Semitism in the U.S. last year.
The ADL originated as a source to identify and combat anti-Semitism, with its first report coming in 1979.
In 2016 there were 1,267 reported incidents. In 2017 there was a 57 percent increase, with 1,986 reported incidents.
This is also the first report in the past 10 years that includes all 50 states.
The anti-Semitic incidents were broken down into three categories: harassment, vandalism and assault, with 2017 seeing the largest increase in incidents of vandalism. According to the report, vandalism rose 86 percent, with more than 950 incidents reported.
Last year, neo-Nazi groups seemed more comfortable with slithering out into the light, than they have in past years.
Rallies, like that in Charlottesville, Virginia popped up with more frequency.
According to the organization’s report, the sharp spike in anti-Semitic incidents in 2017 came after a slow decline in recent years. A majority of the events were seen in schools, with incidents on college campuses jumping 89 percent and incidents at K-12 schools nearly doubling from 235 to 457.
Yes, that says K-12 incidents have doubled.
This is a pretty despicable turn of events in our nation, and one we should all be soundly condemning in our communities, to our children, and across social media.
This is definitely not the best of us.
