While rumors regarding the status of DACA are swirling, suggesting that Trump will end the program soon, fellow Republicans are speaking out.

Among them, Utah Senator Orrin Hatch and House Speaker Paul Ryan have suggested that Trump leave the Obama-era legislation in place, for now.

Ryan addressed the rumors earlier today:

“I actually don’t think he should do that and I believe that this is something Congress has to fix,” Ryan told WCLO Janesville.

And no, he doesn’t like how Obama went about implementing the DACA program, which allows for around 800,000 immigrants, brought to the country illegally, as children, to receive work permits and to be deferred from deportation.

“President Obama did not have the legislative authority to do what he did,” said Ryan. “You can’t, as an executive, write law out of thin air.”

If the program is to be dismantled, Ryan and others would rather Congress have a hand in working through the details.

While the decision may not come today, Texas and nine other states have threatened legal action, should the program not be rescinded by September 5.
