Remember the story I brought you earlier today, about Trump’s tantrum over his Phoenix crowd size, that cost a longtime aide his position?
Here’s another example of man-baby Trump’s total lack of empathy and compassion, as it is eclipsed by his fragile ego.
The president arrived in Texas today, in order to survey the devastation of those communities in the path of Hurricane Harvey.
The New York Post is reporting that Trump’s first reaction, after being greeted by a few hundred citizens outside of a fire station in Corpus Christi, was absolutely classic Trump ego.
“What a crowd, what a turnout,” he said, emerging from the Annaville Fire House, where he had been meeting Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and other Texas officials.
In a community that had been devastated by the flood, he’s treating it the same way he treats his rallies. He’s stressing crowd size and turnout. Why?
That “Why?” was a rhetorical question. We know why. This is a photo op for him.
Is he going to have his organization donate a few million to relief efforts? Will he personally see to it – and I’m not talking about what he gives the government to do, but what he’ll do out of his own pocket – that water, bedding, food, and other necessities are sent to shelters and affected areas?
You won’t hear about it, because it won’t happen.
He continued to play to his audience, giving canned praise that could easily be a line from any of his numerous campaign rallies.
“Thank you,” he said to applause. “We love you, you are special, we are here to take care of you. It’s going well.”
“It’s historic. It’s epic. But I tell you, it happened in Texas and Texas can handle anything.”
I have no doubt Texas can handle it. Anybody that has been watching the coverage knows Texas can handle it, and they are.
And when they do, it won’t be because of the merciful hand of Trump. It will be because they have a solid governor and good state leadership in place.
Just like North Carolina had when Hurricane Matthew hit in October 2016.
For now, we can expect to see a loop of Trump basking in the adoring crowd that showed up for him in Corpus Christi on Fox News.
We can expect Sean Hannity to give a glowing review.
I’m just cautioning ahead of time that nobody should be surprised when Trump gets back on his plane and flies back to Washington, or maybe Mar-a-Lago and forgets about them.
