Because this is the culture Fox News cultivated under the “leadership” of the lecherous Roger Ailes.
Sure, Fox News has done well – very well, actually – but how much actual “news” is getting through and how much of it is echo chamber for Trumpkins, or eye candy for desperate, lonely guys who get to see “newswomen” with an uncomfortable amount of cleavage showing, in tight dresses with hemlines that wouldn’t pass the thumb test?
But news.
Ailes, himself, was forced to step down after multiple revelations of sexual harassment towards the female help and a lawsuit from a former female on-air personality.
The top Fox personality, Bill O’Reilly, however, seems to be getting a pass, for pretty much the same thing.
O’Reilly, who has been the top-rated host in cable news for 15 consecutive years, was the subject of a front-page New York Times article Saturday that detailed sexual harassment claims by five women that resulted in $13 million in payouts from the network and O’Reilly.
O’Reilly’s lawyer, Fredric S. Newman, in a statement to the Times suggested O’Reilly might take legal action against some people bringing claims against him, stating: “We are now seriously considering legal action to defend Mr. O’Reilly’s reputation.”
All that, and it didn’t stop them from renewing his contract.
He’s hired a crisis communications expert to do some spinning in the No Spin Zone, it seems. He’s using the same guy, Mark Fabiani, who was special counsel and legal spokesperson for President Clinton in the mid-90s.
We understand he has a bit of experience in managing crises.
Of course, O’Reilly claims he is innocent of all the accusations against him. Targeted, even.
“Just like other prominent and controversial people, I’m vulnerable to lawsuits from individuals who want me to pay them to avoid negative publicity,” the statement read. “In my more than 20 years at Fox News Channel, no one has ever filed a complaint about me with the Human Resources Department, even on the anonymous hotline.
“But most importantly, I’m a father who cares deeply for my children and who would do anything to avoid hurting them in any way. And so I have put to rest any controversies to spare my children.”
He paid them to spare his teen children.
Didn’t his daughter testify in his divorce proceeding from her mother that she witnessed him abusing her mother?
Fine parenting and protecting, there, Bill.
At least he’s still got a job.
