And this will be a day of mourning for me.
Showing the grace and class he is known for, North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory’s office released a video conceding the race as governor to do-nothing, lay-about, Attorney General Roy Cooper.
The best case scenario, at this point, is that President-elect Trump offer this amazing man a position on his cabinet, and McCrory come roaring back in 2020, to wrest the governorship from the Democrats’ hands.
There is also still a Republican majority in the state House and Senate, who will hold Cooper accountable (hopefully) for the next dark years.
McCrory was targeted because of his firm stance on the social issues, and those, unfortunately, overshadowed the amazing work he has done for the state, fiscally. You can blame this society of low information voters for that.
To Governor McCrory, I give my thanks and heartfelt appreciation for the last four years. He did an amazing job of canceling the state’s debt and building a surplus, as well as a business climate that has become the envy of the nation. That he did so in such a short time is a testament to the man’s strengths as a leader. The only way Roy Cooper bests that is if he stays in his cave and let’s the NC General Assembly do what they’ve done with McCrory at the helm.
