Maryland Democrat Congressman Steny Hoyer is on notice. He has an announced challenger for the 2016 Democrat primary. The challenger is a 20-year Navy veteran, former SEAL, and author of the memoir Warrior Princess: A U.S. Navy SEAL’s Journey to Coming out Transgender, Christoper Kristen Beck. Via The Hill:
Kristin Beck, a transgender former Navy SEAL, is mounting a challenge against the second-ranking Democrat in the House.
Beck on Monday filed the paperwork to run in the Democratic primary against [mc_name name=’Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’H000874′ ] (D-Md.), according to Maryland elections records.
This is good theater. In Maryland, where you can use whatever bathroom that comports with your gender imagination of the moment, this shouldn’t be taken as unusual. And Mr. Beck is not going to be a terribly serious candidate. It looks like he’s going to run on the “surgically crafted vagina” platform because his policy differences with Hoyer are nil:
“I like Steny,” she said on “Nation First” on Monday. “He’s been here for over 30 years. He’s done a really good job, I just think it’s time… . You need to pass the baton onto younger generations.”
Ideally, the bizarreness of his candidacy will draw funding and Hoyer will have to actually put up a fight against one of the many favorite and criticism-immune whiny minority and special interest groups in the Democrat party. It could be the most interesting House race of 2016.
