There's an old saying that "absence makes the heart grow fonder," and that may well hold true in many instances. However, I can't say that's the case for former President Joe Biden, who made his first formal post-presidency appearance in Chicago to — checks notes — blast President Donald Trump regarding Social Security.
It could just be my right-leaning perspective here, but while much has been said of late regarding the Democrats' flailing and being seemingly leaderless, I'm not exactly sure who was clamoring for Joe to abandon the old beach chair and resurrect the whisper-scream, but someone thought it was a good idea.
It didn't get off to the most auspicious start, with Biden seeming unclear as to his cue to start speaking:

Once the music quieted down, he proceeded to slam his successor for ruining Social Security:
“In fewer than 100 days, this administration has done so much damage and so much devastation. It’s breathtaking that it could happen so fast,” Biden said. “They’re taking a hatchet to the Social Security Administration, pushing out 7,000 employees, including the most seasoned officials.”
Biden added, “People are now genuinely concerned for the first time in history — for the first and only time in history — that their Social Security benefits may be delayed or interrupted. They’ve gotten it during wartime, during recessions, during the pandemic — no matter what they got it. But now, for the first time ever, that may change. It would be a calamity for millions of families, millions of people.”

In a nutshell, according to Biden, Trump is heartlessly gutting Social Security, and millions of people are going to suffer — oh, and he wants to meet "those 300-year-old folk getting that Social Security."
The corrupt old coot, Joe Biden thinks it’s funny that millions of people over the age of 100 are fraudulently receiving tax-payer funded Social Security, I guess 👇🏻

“By the way, those 300-year-old folk getting that Social Security, I wanna meet them because I’d like to know how… pic.twitter.com/NDPTU5eCQF
The irony is he cracked that joke following comments about "mak(ing) sure benefits are going to people who, actually, they belong to."
Yes, Joe, that's rather the point.
Of course, no Joe Biden speech would be complete without an awkward reference to his youth and "colored kids on a bus."
Uhh.... guys. You're not surprised, but Joe Biden hasn't gotten any better since he left office.

But in the end, it seemed Biden's primary message was that Social Security is a big deal and provides a "psychic calm" to people expecting to collect it, and now, President Trump is somehow taking that away (despite the fact that he's not — except maybe for those 300-year-olds Joe was referencing).

Setting aside the rather troubling notion that Biden and the Democrats are embracing and championing a poorly managed government system as the psychological salve for Americans, I'm simply left wondering who this message was meant for...
...and who even listened to it?
