With a March 14 deadline looming, we knew a continuing resolution (CR) to temporarily fund the government through September was in the offing. On Saturday, House Republicans released the text of the proposed measure — a 99-page stopgap bill, described as a "pretty damn clean bill" even by those who aren't noted Trump supporters.
A pretty damn clean bill on first inspection.

Trump and house republicans really wanna avoid a shutdown and move onto reconciliation. https://t.co/mSEJnI78eg
As our Becca Lower noted in her write-up on the CR, President Donald Trump swiftly threw his support behind the measure, asking for Americans "to give us a few months to get us through to September so we can continue to put the Country’s 'financial house' in order."

And Trump is far from alone in touting the measure. As Becca noted, House Freedom Caucus member Clay Higgins (R-LA) is advocating for its passage. Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) has also voiced his support of the CR.
Rep. Roy on Democrat obstruction efforts of the clean CR: “If they want to go shut the government down and try to tell President Trump that he shouldn't continue to do what they're doing through DOGE, for example, finding duplicate social security numbers, finding a $32,000… pic.twitter.com/amHwOPLrTj

Rep. Roy on Democrat obstruction efforts of the clean CR: “If they want to go shut the government down and try to tell President Trump that he shouldn't continue to do what they're doing through DOGE, for example, finding duplicate social security numbers, finding a $32,000 transgender comic book to Peru. . . The American people are sick of it.
So we want to give the @POTUS the runway, we want to give @russvought the runway, @elonmusk the runway to do their job. Democrats want to stop it.
Our job is to keep the lights on to allow them to continue to expose all this to the American people, because we're winning minds and hearts that this whole town, THE SWAMP, has been wasting their money.”
And it isn't just lawmakers advocating for giving Republicans a bit of grace and space to implement their agenda. Turning Point USA CEO and Salem Media radio host Charlie Kirk also endorsed President Trump's budget strategy, stating on X:
Republicans have a precious opportunity and we can’t afford to squander it. This CR gives the Trump admin enough runway to keep delivering while making progress on the battles looming in September. Republicans have a precious opportunity and we can’t afford to squander it. This CR gives the Trump admin enough runway to keep delivering while making progress on the battles looming in September. We need to continue our historic momentum and deliver on the president’s core promises. This CR takes all the power away from Chuck Schumer and the Democrats who are begging for Republicans to break rank. This is how we stop them while making sure the President Trump and his team are able to continue charging ahead. Let’s stay united, Republicans.
As Americans grow understandably impatient on seeing government spending brought to heel, the idea behind this strategy is to use the CR as a brief stopgap and then tackle the necessary structural budgetary changes via reconciliation.
None of those who want to see the U.S. get its financial house in order want to see the can continue to be kicked down the road. But those who voted for this administration and afforded Republicans a majority (albeit a slim one) in both houses of Congress are being asked to give them the necessary "runway" to achieve those aims.
