Good morning, and welcome to RedState's "Morning Minute" — a brief glimpse at which stories are trending at the moment and a look ahead at what the day may bring. Consider this your one-stop shop for news to kickstart your day.
TOP O' THE MORNIN'
I have to admit to playing this a few times to hear him say, "Oh, dang!" under his breath, realizing that he was being nailed with his texts.
While preliminary introductions were being made and staff counsel was reviewing ground rules for the testimony — and before testimony had even begun — Swalwell, who's allegedly 43, interrupted, demanding to know when the transcript would be released and making snide Russia references.
Biden Visits the Border Patrol in Brownsville, and His Confusion Goes Into Overdrive
As with everything with Joe Biden, his issues were readily apparent during his visit.
They showed him some of the border (no illegal aliens in sight), and he looked very old and confused.
WHAT'S ON TAP?
Today on Capitol Hill...
Everyone can heave a sigh of relief because both the House and the Senate passed a stopgap continuing resolution to avert the dreaded shutdown that originally (in theory) loomed today. Now, they have another week to pass six appropriations bills on which they already have agreement, but just three weeks to figure out how to tackle the other half-dozen. One does have to wonder if Speaker Johnson is starting to second guess taking the gavel.
White House What's Up
Friday, fresh off his border trip, President Biden will host Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni of Italy for a meeting before heading off to Camp David.
Full Court Press...
In Fulton County, Judge Scott McAfee will hear arguments today regarding the potential disqualification of District Attorney Fani Willis from the prosecution of former President Donald Trump and others on purported violations of Georgia racketeering laws.
Meanwhile, one state south, a scheduling conference is set in the Southern District of Florida on the Mar-a-Lago/classified documents criminal case against Trump to consider Trump's motion to continue the May 20 trial date and set certain pre-trial deadlines.
Last but certainly not least, there's some thought the Supreme Court may issue its ruling today on the Colorado decision to remove Trump from the ballot pursuant to the 14th Amendment. If so, that's sure to cause a stir.
MORNING MUSING
Hard to believe it's been a dozen years since we lost the #HappyWarrior, though he most certainly lives on in spirit — chances are many of the conservative writers and pundits you read/follow were influenced by Andrew Breitbart, if not directly, then secondarily.
He was a force of nature. I highly doubt there's a person he met during his (far too short) 43 years on the planet who didn't come away with a funny story or memory to share — here's one of mine from CPAC 2012 during a panel presentation regarding an upcoming documentary/film regarding the Occupy movement:
One of the funniest moments of the presentation came when, toward the end of it, Andrew’s phone suddenly started ringing. He jumped up as he was answering it and, in typical Breitbartian fashion, announced to the room, “Oh, it’s Hannity – I’m supposed to be on Hannity!” And proceeded to bound out of the room while commencing the interview. I’ve often categorized various folks I know as Winnie the Pooh archetypes….Andrew was pure Tigger, and that moment captured it perfectly.
