Back in the late 90s and early 2000s, there was no bigger fan of The WB than me. It started with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, then quickly expanded to Dawson’s Creek, then Felicity, and Roswell. While I was on the upper end of the target age demographic, I wasn’t so far removed from young adulthood that I couldn’t appreciate the shows – in my view, they were well-written, well-acted, and engaging.
So, I found it interesting when video emerged Wednesday of actor James Van Der Beek – the Dawson of Dawson’s Creek – criticizing the DNC’s decision to forgo presidential primary debates for the 2024 election. The two primary Democratic challengers to Joe Biden – Marianne Williamson and RFK Jr. – have been critical of the DNC’s move, but that’s to be expected – they’re directly and negatively impacted by it.

But it isn’t just candidates and politicos taking note. Now you’ve got the likes of Hollywood actors – presumably from the left – speaking out on the issue. And while one might quibble with his broad use of the term “democracy” (given that we’re a republic), the underlying principle stands: Not allowing for debate or a meaningful challenge means it’s just a small group of (unelected) people making the decisions for all.
And it isn’t just the Dems that leaves up the creek without a paddle.
