On Wednesday, my Red State colleague Nick Arama wrote about the breaking news story involving a DNA test that proved Joe Biden’s son Hunter is the father of a child in Arkansas.

The story first broke via the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s Frank Lockwood, who filed a second report today with additional information:

DNA testing has established, “with scientific certainty,” that Hunter Biden is the father of an Arkansas baby, according to a motion filed Wednesday afternoon in Independence County on behalf of the child’s mother, Lunden Alexis Roberts.

Biden, son of former Vice President Joe Biden, “is not expected to challenge the results of the DNA test or the testing process,” the filing states.

With the paternity test complete, the focus can shift to the father’s child support obligations, [Roberts’ attorney Clint] Lancaster said.

“Our firm has not had the opportunity yet to engage in discovery related to Mr. Biden’s income or assets,” Lancaster said.

Julia Ioffe, a correspondent for GQ Magazine, didn’t buy that the story was legit initially because Orange Man Bad – plus Must Protect Democrats. So she determined soon after the story hit the Internet that it must be Russian trolls who were spreading fake news about the son of one of the frontrunners for the Democratic nomination for president.

In tweets she has since deleted, she noted there was a symbol used in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s tweet that she described as a “Russian quotation mark.” She then expressed skepticism that such a mark could be typed on a standard QWERTY keyboard.

But she found out she was wrong – and had to admit it:

Later, the paper’s deputy online editor Maggie McNeary – who apparently posted the tweet in question – chimed in, confirming with Ioffe that she wasn’t a Russian troll, and that her paper was legit:

Oops.

For the record, Ioffe is the same journalist who was fired from Politico in December 2016 after a tweet she posted suggesting Donald Trump, who had just been elected president, was having an incestuous relationship with his daughter Ivanka.
