Michelle Obama got some pushback from critics following an Instagram post in which she lamented that times have been tough over the last few months and that Americans are feeling "anxious" as we head into the New Year.
Mrs. Obama's comments seem to reference a fragility amongst a segment of the American people who might be dismayed at the election victory of Donald Trump.
"Happy holidays, everyone!" she begins the message. "I know it’s been a difficult few months for so many of us — and that folks are feeling a little bit anxious and uncertain."
Obama continues, adding "But even during these tough times, there are plenty of reasons to stay hopeful."
The video is interspersed with shots of presumably everyday people. One man wearing a Chicago Bears jacket has surely suffered some tough times over the past few months. What with the election loss for Democrats and, well, having to live with the burden of being a Bears fan.
Then, of course, there was the blue-haired lass riding a subway. No doubt she's a little apprehensive about the incoming administration.
Fear not, those of you concerned about the coming year, which will feature Donald Trump as your president yet again. There is hope. Hope, in the form of the Obama Presidential Center, the $482 million vanity project for her husband, Barack.
"On the South side of Chicago, the Obama Presidential Center continues to rise as a symbol of hope and community," Michelle narcissistically proclaims.
Imagine thinking Barack's library is a beacon of hope in challenging times.
Perhaps when she is speaking of being "anxious," Mrs. Obama is actually referring to herself. She did, after all, say that the 2024 presidential election caused her to lose sleep because she was "terrified" of the potential outcome.

“Those are the things that keep me up because you don’t have control over them and you wonder where are we in this, where are our hearts? What’s gonna happen in this next election?” Obama said on a podcast just after last New Year's.
“I am terrified about what could possibly happen because our leaders matter, who we select, who speaks for us, who holds that bully pulpit. It affects us in ways that I think sometimes people take for granted."
Almost exactly one year later, her nightmare will become a reality as Trump is certified as the 47th President of these United States on January 6th.
While Michelle's New Year's message seeking to provide hope for those distraught over the looming Trump inauguration received its share of positive feedback from her followers, several others chimed in, essentially indicating everything is gonna be alright.
"Michelle, America is excited about what’s to come: a new horizon and prosperity for the nation. 2025-2029!" one comment reads. "No anxiety here."
"I am so happy that Donald Trump won and life will go back to normal..." another responded.
One person wrote of their own beacon of hope for the nation - Trump himself: "Twenty-four more days, and we are out of this nightmare you and your husband created for the American people!"
"I feel so unburdened by what has been and full of joy," a follower quipped.
In another Instagram post, Mrs. Obama promotes her new self-help book "Overcoming," a workbook that offers "practical tools for navigating life's challenges and fortifying oneself in the face of uncertainty, obstacles, and self-doubt."
"Overcoming" was released a month after the election. It is currently selling on Amazon at a 51% discount.
"With everything going on in the world," Obama said in promoting the book, "I know that so many of us are feeling a little off-center."
Liberals are feeling anxious and off-center. That's a good thing for America. But keep in mind that the rest of the country is very optimistic as we head into the New Year.
A recent Fox News poll shows 55% of Americans are feeling pretty good about 2025, while 64% said Joe Biden and Kamala Harris's last year in office was a "bad year."
Contrary to Michelle's message, fewer people are feeling "anxious" precisely because of Trump's victory in the election.
