Given the Obama administration’s latest claim that 2.1 million have signed up nationwide, that means as many as 700,000 Americans* might falsely believe they have a current health insurance policy.
Bad things happen to the leadership of large organizations who fail to control how money flows between the organization and its customers. Furthermore; bad things pretty much deserve to happen to people who fail to institute rigorous financial controls while running large organizations. The PC way of describing this would be an adverse professional outcome. Simple folk like little, ol’ moi’ refer to this as karma. In the pathetic case of our current HHS Secretary Kathleen Sibelius, karma should be what’s for breakfast – scattered, covered and chunked.
Two terrible things are happening to the misbegotten ObamaCare programs that are totally Secretary Sibelius’ fault. She’s lucky to work for the government, or else they would be her problem.
1) They have no idea who has paid for insurance at the present time. This means they have no way of knowing how well this entire boondoggle of an insurance scheme is paying for itself.
2) They have no way of knowing whether eligible people are getting proper remuneration for covered services. So regardless of whether you buy Bronze, Silver or Gold insurance, it may well be protecting your health about as well as eating lead paint.
This because the entire enrollment process has been a reeking garbage fire from day one. I described quoting the scripture regarding the blind leading the blind. This disastrous introduction has left myriad problems unsolved. The Washington Post gives insight into just how bad things are for victims of Obamacaring.
The errors cumulatively have affected roughly one-third of the people who have signed up for health plans since Oct. 1, according to two government and health-care industry officials. The White House disputed the figure but declined to provide its own. The federal health-care exchange is falling short of expectations. The mistakes include failure to notify insurers about new customers, duplicate enrollments or cancellation notices for the same person, incorrect information about family members, and mistakes involving federal subsidies.
If one of The Hong Kong Triads were selling this scheme, they would at least be smart enough to understand that it wasn’t paying off when it was required to by law. If an honest firm were running things, they may well charge an arm and a leg and make the terms and conditions very hard for mere mortals to figure out, but they would at least mail out wallet cards and pay what they were legally on the hook for.
Patients at a hospital in Northern Virginia are getting told they have no insurance under Obamacare even if they’ve signed up. The Daily Mail tells the story of Maria Galvez.
‘They had no idea if my insurance was active or not!’ a coughing Maria Galvez told MailOnline outside the Inova Healthplex facility in the town of Springfield. She was leaving the building without getting a needed chest x-ray. ‘The people in there told me that since I didn’t have an insurance card, I would be billed for the whole cost of the x-ray,’ Galvez said, her young daughter in tow. ‘It’s not fair – you know, I signed up last week like I was supposed to.’
So Maria did what she was supposed to. The billing clerk at the hospital probably did the same. The company who sold Maria Galvez “insurance” may not be errant either. Yet if the company was in error, and does need to pay a significant chunk of the price of this woman’s chest X-Ray, then there is someone who *is* responsible for making sure this sort of garbage doesn’t continue to happen.
Unfortunately, that responsible party is Secretary Sibelius. If Mrs. Galvez fell over in a ditch and died from pneumonia, Secretary Sibelius would be way too important to bug in the middle of dinner over the unfortunate happenstance. This is what happens to a nation that elects a cadre of self-inflated popinjays who are arrogant enough to demand that something be passed “to find out what’s in it.” From their point of view, what’s in it will forever be a YP, but never an MP.** It’s good to be royalty; it’s hell to live and die with the consequences of their decisions.
*-My bolding for emphasis.
**-YP? MP? You remember the line from Boogie Nights.
