The allegation against Judge Brett Kavanaugh is falling apart. Kavanaugh and Mark Judge both say what Christine Blasey Ford alleges didn’t happen and that they were not even at the party she describes.
Now, a third witness has stepped forward to dispute Blasey’s story.
From CNN:
Patrick J. Smyth attended Georgetown Prep — an all-boys school in North Bethesda, Maryland — alongside Kavanaugh. Both men graduated in 1983. Smyth signed a letter this summer, before the allegations against Kavanaugh were made public, testifying that Kavanaugh “is singularly qualified to be an Associate Justice on the U.S. Supreme Court,” along with dozen other of the school’s alumni.
Eric Bruce, who is representing Smyth, authored a letter to Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, the top Democrat on the committee. CNN has obtained a copy of the letter, which includes a quote from Smyth denying seeing any “improper conduct” from Kavanaugh.
“I understand that I have been identified by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford as the person she remembers as ‘PJ’ who supposedly was present at the party she described in her statements to the Washington Post,” Smyth says in his statement to the Senate Judiciary Committee. “I am issuing this statement today to make it clear to all involved that I have no knowledge of the party in question; nor do I have any knowledge of the allegations of improper conduct she has leveled against Brett Kavanaugh.”
“Personally speaking, I have known Brett Kavanaugh since high school and I know him to be a person of great integrity, a great friend, and I have never witnessed any improper conduct by Brett Kavanaugh towards women. To safeguard my own privacy and anonymity, I respectfully request that the Committee accept this statement in response to any inquiry the Committee may have.”
In addition to the absurd demand the FBI investigate the alleged charge before Blasey testifies, the Democrats are showing themselves to be the partisan hacks everyone suspects they are. Their entire “strategy” has been to run out the clock on the Kavanaugh nomination. They keep claiming his nomination was “rushed” when the timeline from his nomination to the confirmation vote was in line with many other nominees (and sometimes shorter) over the last 40 years.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein had this information for nearly two months. Even though Blasey did not want her name released, Feinstein had the opportunity to raise the allegation with Kavanaugh when she met with him privately. Feinstein could have gone to Sen. Chuck Grassley and interviewed Blasey behind closed doors. But she didn’t. She held on to it and when it appeared Kavanaugh’s confirmation vote was assured, a Democratic staffer on the judiciary committee or a Democrat senator themselves leaked Blasey’s name to the press. Once news outlets had her name, it was only a matter of time before she came forward and did.
Now, they’re looking to delay and delay some more. Republicans, to their credit, are not playing games with the Democrats. Bob Corker, a Trump critic and one who said Blasey should have the opportunity to testify, tweeted the following:
After learning of the allegation, Chairman @ChuckGrassley took immediate action to ensure both Dr. Ford and Judge Kavanaugh have the opportunity to be heard, in public or private. Republicans extended a hand in good faith. If we don’t hear from both sides on Monday, let’s vote.
