On “Fox and Friends” Monday, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was asked how she felt about the issue of removing statues or monuments from public spaces of past American leaders who were slave owners. Rice offered a very sage response.

“I am a firm believer in keep your history before you,” she said. “And so I don’t actually want to rename things that were named for slave owners. I want us to have to look at those names and recognize what they did.”

“When you start wiping out your history, sanitizing your history, to make yourself feel better it’s a bad thing.”

She went on to say that our children need to have a sense of their own history and that slavery was a part of that, but she also went on to state that it’s important to recognize how far America has come since slavery was abolished.
