We've seen the effort from the left ramp up to target Elon Musk and his social media platform, X, all in the wake of promising free speech on the site. Now there's a concerning post by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) that is raising a lot of concerns.
The Biden has launched a variety of investigations into Musk's companies including X. The investigations involve the DOJ, the FTC and the SEC.
Musk just filed what he termed a "thermonuclear lawsuit" against Media Matters, alleging that they defamed the X platform after they published a report that said ads for major brands appeared next to posts praising Nazism. That caused some big name advertisers to drop their advertising on X. Without enough advertising, the platform could go under.
Questions were raised about the validity of that Media Matters report and two Attorneys General, Ken Paxton of Texas and Andrew Bailey of Missouri, said they would be investigating. Paxton said he was opening an investigation into "potential fraudulent activity" and that there were "left-wing organizations who would like nothing more than to limit freedom by reducing participation in the public square."
People like Megyn Kelly sprang to the defense of Musk, noting how important it was to preserve X. Other sites and influencers pledged ad support.
Now Schiff is trying to ramp up the pressure against Musk and X.
"Elon Musk has been amplifying antisemitic content, profiting from misinformation, and allowing pro-Hamas propaganda to spread on X," Schiff claimed. "This needs to stop. I've joined @RepDanGoldman and @RepRaskin in demanding accountability from X."
You have to wonder if Schiff or his fellow representatives have ever heard about the First Amendment or their obligation to protect it when he posts something like that.
Of course this is about trying to bring down pressure on X. This has nothing to do with "antisemitism." Musk is not an antisemite. Schiff should be looking to the violent antisemitic people in his own party who have been rampaging in the streets. He doesn't want to talk about the people who even attacked the police at the DNC. But he doesn't want to call out the people in his own party. He doesn't want to call out his own colleagues who make antisemitic remarks. I wrote the other day the hilarious whataboutisms that Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) pulled out to deflect from the leftist violence at the DNC. And maybe Schiff should talk to Goldman about not saying things that sound like threats to former President Donald Trump.
In Schiff's case, it might also have to do with the Twitter Files exposing his effort to influence the site when it was controlled by the prior owners. But imagine Schiff, who spread the Russia collusion hoax, trying to talk about anyone else and "misinformation."
The Internet had more than a few things to say about Schiff's post and it went viral because of it.
Imagine with all the other things going on, this is what they're trying to target, rather than the real issues. This references Goldman from New York:
What a JOKE

While NYC is facing an unprecedented migrant crisis, average rent is $5,500 a month, and I had people shutting down my street chanting “From the river to the sea,” my Congressman for NY is spending his time going after mean tweets & Elon Musk.
USELESS! https://t.co/bKTVE65eR3
Someone seems upset that his lies, gaslighting, propaganda, censorship and fascism are being systematically exposed on X. Sorry Schiff, you are like the boy who cried wolf too many times, never letting any tragedy go to waste. Nobody believes your BS anymore. @elonmusk https://t.co/PF6PsYrLJS

They have to destroy anything and everything that could possibly refute their agenda. This lying administration and their cronies have no place in determining what Americans should or shouldn’t say or hear. https://t.co/akVAI6uN4u
