During a Congressional hearing about the Twitter Files and the government’s involvement in the censorship of speech on Twitter, Democrats were doing all they could to attack and try to smear the journalists who were involved in the reporting including an independent journalist, Matt Taibbi.
Not only did they smear the Twitter Files reporters, but they also tried to find out their sources. So much for freedom of the press. Then Taibbi found out that on that same day, the IRS showed up on his doorstep.
That’s chilling when you have to have such concerns about the government being weaponized against you because the Democrats don’t like that you’re challenging their control or calling out their narrative.
But that’s not all. They’re still trying to come after Taibbi — they’re threatening him with jail time now because of his testimony before Congress.
Del. Stacey Plaskett (D-VI) is the ranking member of the Weaponization Subcommittee. She was involved in the attack on Taibbi during the hearing; she tried to get his sources and smeared him as a “so-called journalist“. She sent a letter to Taibbi accusing him of committing perjury during his testimony because he supposedly made an error referring to the CISA (the government’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency) when he meant to refer to the CIS (the Center for Internet Security), a private organization. Taibbi admitted the error and corrected it.
But this is what Plaskett was trying to go after Taibbi about, claiming he “contradicted” himself”.
“This mistake is important because, by adding an ‘A,’ you weren’t making a harmless spelling error. Rather, you were alleging that CISA — a government entity — was working with the EIP [Election Integrity Partnership] to have posts removed from social media,” Plaskett wrote to Taibbi, according to a letter obtained by journalist and fellow Twitter Files reporter Lee Fang on Thursday. “When presented with this misinformation, you acknowledged you had made ‘an error’ by intentionally altering the acronym CIS and you subsequently deleted your erroneous tweet.”
Plaskett continued, “Prior to your appearance before the subcommittee on March 9, you signed the Judiciary Committee’s Truth in Testimony form, certifying that you understand that ‘knowingly providing material false information to this committee/subcommittee or knowingly concealing material information from this committee/subcommittee, is a crime (18 U.S.C. 1001). In addition, at the beginning of the March 9 hearing, you swore ‘under penalty of perjury that the testimony you [were] about to give [was] true and correct to the best of your knowledge, information, and belief.’ Under the federal perjury statue, 18 U.S.C. 1621, proving false information is punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment.”
Plaskett claims he “intentionally” made a mistake with the acronym when there is no evidence for that.
Journalist Lee Fang explained that this all stemmed from an attack by MSNBC’s Medhi Hasan about the mistake in the acronym, but that Taibbi was accurate in his reporting, that EIP listed CISA as one of its major government stakeholders.
Mehdi’s viral deception that Taibbi lied under oath about DHS/CISA now has House Dems explicitly threatening Taibbi w/ imprisonment. Taibbi was accurate in this quote, yet here’s a letter from Rep. Stacey Plaskett citing Mehdi to float a threat of 5 years of jail against Taibbi pic.twitter.com/VYf2tw8LDE

Talk about an effort to intimidate Taibbi. She’s proving the point of Taibbi’s reporting and the point of the Weaponization Committee by her very actions. This proves how much it is needed as well as how out of control the censorship effort and the Democrats are. This is an effort by Democrats to shut up and chill the speech of the very journalist calling out the censorship that has involved Democrats and agencies of the Biden administration. These are the people who talk about “attacks on democracy” when they are attacking the very foundational principles of our Republic. Remember when Democrats used to claim that former President Donald Trump saying something was “fake news” (and it was) was an attack on a free press? That was nonsense. Yet they have no problem with threatening Taibbi or having the IRS show up at his door.
Michael Shellenberger, another Twitter Files journalist, summed up well, “Sure is getting fashy [fascist] around here.”
March: “Ha ha, nobody’s ‘weaponizing’ the government”
April: “Prison for journalists!”
