I reported earlier on new revelations about a federal subpoena to get any relevant records in Hunter Biden’s paternity suit.
The subpoena requested any records that Clint Lancaster, Lunden Roberts’ attorney, might have “regarding [Hunter] Biden’s income, assets, debts, obligations, and financial transactions… and all personal and business expenditures,” as well as any tax documents they might have on him. The request specified January 2017 to the present.
CBS’s Catherine Herridge said that their investigation showed the depths that the subpoena was plumbing, and that according to a former U.S. Attorney, they were “leaving no stone unturned,” that they were seeking documents related to 1) the flow of money into and out of his account and 2) things related to his taxes.
A 2020 subpoena from the U.S. Attorney's office in Delaware, obtained by @CBSNews, requested “records from Hunter Biden, including his agents + representatives” from a 2019 paternity suit. The lawyer involved said a meeting followed with FBI + IRS agents.pic.twitter.com/NQttPWn7WE

After the subpoena in 2020, the FBI and the IRS also visited and interviewed Lancaster and his client Lunden Roberts. Then Lunden Roberts testified before the grand jury this year, in February. As Herridge notes, there’s something in those records that they want her to testify about “so it’s the data chain that really matters here.”
One of the anchors asked Herridge if this information implicated Joe Biden in any way. Herridge said she didn’t want to speculate, noting that the White House has claimed that Joe Biden wasn’t involved. But Herridge added that they had also found out in the process of their investigation about another subpoena that was issued in 2019 sought not only Hunter Biden’s records but “all records, documents and accounts pertaining to all financial/banking transactions” between 15 business entities and Hunter Biden, the president’s brother James, as well as two business partners dating back to 2014. Herridge noted that the reason “that timing matters” was that Joe Biden was still vice president back then.
So, if you were talking about influence-peddling, the timing would be important. If there are things they can lay out on the connections when he was still in office — such as the meetings with the business partners, that could be very problematic for Joe Biden, both because he’s consistently lied about that but also if they were to find that there was a quid pro quo — picture with the big guy gets deal for Hunter.
As we previously noted, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) told CBS that 150 transactions from either Hunter or James Biden had been flagged by banks for further review.
According to the records, which come directly from the banks, James Biden received $65,000 a month from a Chinese company connected to the Chinese government, totaling $780,000 through 2018. The records also showed that Hunter received money from the same company — $100,000 a month for the same year, in addition to a $500,000 retainer. That added up to $1.7 million from the firm in 2018. What exactly that was supposed to pay for isn’t clear.
Grassley also explained that over 150 financial transactions from Hunter or James Biden were flagged as “concerning by U.S. banks for further review.” Some of those transactions involved large wire transfers. The results of the review are not clear, according to CBS.
The records also appeared to confirm the prior stories we covered about a line of credit of about $100,000, established by the Chinese firm, that Biden family members used to go on a spending spree, including airline tickets, hotels, and restaurants. The records show what appears to be the 2017 application for that $99,000 line of credit that has the signatures of Hunter Biden and the Chinese executive.
We also noted that in terms of Joe’s connection to Hunter’s businesses, Tony Bobulinski had explicitly laid out Joe Biden’s involvement in the Chinese-connected company in 2017.
Tony Bobulinski: “I have heard Joe Biden say that he has never discussed business with Hunter. That is false… At my approximately hour-long meeting with Joe that night, we discussed… the Biden family’s business plans with the Chinese, with which he was plainly familiar." pic.twitter.com/JBk0jx0f38

So, we’ll have to see how the investigation breaks this all down, but it does certainly sound, as Herridge said, that they are going all in.
