We’ve seen a lot of bad moves by Canadian government officials in dealing with the Freedom Convoy protesters.
We’ve seen one good move — getting rid of some of the crazier folks on the Ottawa police services board.
The city threatened and seized some of the protesters’ fuel during some of the coldest nights of the year. They threatened to seize protesters’ trucks. They threatened to bring in child protective services for any of the truckers who had kids at the protest — to ensure the “safety” of the children. Families who are there are generally staying in hotels.
But, it looks like there are still some officials wanting to engage in crazy moves. They now look like they are threatening to take ‘your little dog, too.’
Attention animal owners at demonstration
If you are unable to care for your animal as a result of enforcement actions, your animal will placed into protective care for 8 days, at your cost. After 8 days, if arrangements are not made, your animal will be considered relinquished. pic.twitter.com/OkbXc8RE3c

“Attention animal owners at demonstration,” the Ottawa by-law city department declared. “If you are unable to care for your animal as a result of enforcement actions, your animal will placed into protective care for 8 days, at your cost. After 8 days, if arrangements are not made, your animal will be considered relinquished.” Whoever posted the tweet even appears to have snapped a picture of one of the truckers’ dogs.
How to make people flip out and not cooperate? Threaten their pets. So, if you dare protest and get arrested and can’t make arrangements, you lose your dog. And then what happens to the dog, if he is “relinquished”? You’ll kill the dog? Not exactly a smart tactic, if you’re trying to resolve the situation. Talk about acting like jackbooted thugs. Be warned if you dissent and refuse to comply with government orders; this is what can happen to you. And these people think they are on the right side of history?
Add this to the already concerning move by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to invoke the Emergencies Act — that is such a danger to civil liberties and gives them the power to grab bank accounts and even forcibly conscript tow trucks who had refused to act against the protesters. Some premiers and even civil liberties associations have objected to his invocation of the Act.
Ottawa is a country song.
They'll take your dog.
They'll take your kids.
They'll take your truck. https://t.co/oenDG0jbYH— Sheila Gunn Reid (@SheilaGunnReid) February 17, 2022
This is still about your health and safety, right? 🤔 https://t.co/NBuFwb5xQC
