The Democrats got the infrastructure bill over the line, but they did so with help from 13 Republicans as we previously reported. Had it not been for the Republicans, the bill would have been in trouble because of the “no” votes from the progressives including members of The Squad. The bill passed, 228-206.

As I said that night, I don’t know what they were thinking going along with this and throwing the Democrats a lifeline. Even if you argue that yes, infrastructure is needed, that bill was packed with Democratic agenda items. Crush the Democrats by allowing them to do each other in, take over the House and pass a real infrastructure bill when you take over. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out but apparently those 13 people are all in the mood to be primaried.

The 13 included Reps. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), Don Bacon (R-NE), Don Young (R-AK), John Katko (R-NY), Tom Reed (R-NY), Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Chris Smith (R-NJ), Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ), Fred Upton (R-MI), Anthony Gonzalez (R-OH), and David McKinley (R-WV).

But one of them may just have realized that she stepped in it big time.

President Donald Trump was speaking at the National Republican Congressional Committee dinner on Monday when he let loose on the 13 Republicans who voted in favor of the infrastructure package saying they should be “ashamed of themselves” for “helping the Democrats.”

“I love all the House Republicans. Well, actually, I don’t love all of you. I don’t love the 13 that voted for Biden’s infrastructure plan,” Trump reportedly said, according to The Washington Post.

Malliotakis was at the dinner and according to a NY Post report was “visibly shaken” by Trump’s words.

As we noted, she previously tried to justify herself saying that the bill was important to her state. While that’s certainly true, you should fight to do it the proper way, holding out for only infrastructure in the bill, not Democratic political items. When you are always willing to concede, they will keep running over you. Either you are standing on principle or you are falling for everything.

But she’s just now getting how bad this might come back on her? Why is this a shock for her? Did she think that that people were going to cheer that she made this move? And she’s from New York, so if Republicans turn on her in the primary, she’s toast. It seems that Trump may have just brought that home to her. Hopefully, the rest of the 13 also get that very strong message, and good on Trump for delivering it.
