Democrats have to be beside themselves right now.

They keep hoping that something will come down the pike to fulfill their wish to get President Donald Trump locked up.

First, they placed their bets on Robert Mueller but that failed big time, not only showing there was no Russia collusion but also pretty much showing how they had nothing at all. If they had something, Mueller would have tried to get Trump with it.

Trump-haters have thrown out all kinds of other imaginings by which they might get him, but those haven’t panned out either.

The latest dream was that the Manhattan DA would nail him. Vance is a rabid partisan Democrat and indeed if there had been anything at all that he could have nailed him with, Vance would most certainly go after Trump for it.

But now the word is in from Trump’s attorney, and it sounds like Vance may be dashing the Trump-haters’ dreams and yet again, they will be gnashing their teeth in disappointment.

According to Ronald Fischetti, he said he was informed that the DA would not be charging Trump after having his tax returns and investigating for years. He said that he had been informed that they were looking at the Organization and a small number of employees for failing to pay taxes on giving perks to some of the employees.

“We asked, ‘Is there anything else?’” Fischetti told POLITICO. “They said, ‘No.’”

“It’s crazy that that’s all they had,” he added.

“In my more than 50 years of practice, never before have I seen a district attorney’s office target a company over employee compensation or fringe benefits,” Fischetti had previously said. “It’s ridiculous and outrageous.”

Now, one might expect Fischetti to say that under the circumstances, but even the NY Times confirmed that, citing “several lawyers who specialize in tax rules” who said it would be very unusual to charge anyone of the basis of not paying taxes on giving out fringe benefits. The Times article also suggested the timing of these potential “charges” would appear highly coincidental and meant to tag Trump as he starts to get out on the road again, rallying with a possible return to politics in mind.

So, in other words, sounds like they have nothing, but are going to work up what little they have to make it sound like something to do what damage they can do to Trump.

Now that doesn’t mean necessarily that there wouldn’t be any charges down the road. But at this point, it looks like one huge nothing burger and a whole lot of crying Democrats tonight.
