This is not sounding good.

We saw a lot of questionable action from federal authorities under the Obama Administration, including the targeting of people associated with the Trump campaign. Now we may be back in that time again with Joe Biden in charge and no one standing in the way.

According to the New York Times, federal investigators executed a search warrant at the Manhattan apartment of the former NYC mayor and lawyer to President Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, today. According to the New York Times’ sources, Giuliani’s electronic devices were seized. Allegedly, it has to do with lobbying for Ukrainian officials who were helping Giuliani look into the questions regarding Ukraine, Joe Biden, and his son, Hunter. MSN claims authorities have been trying to access Giuliani’s phones for a while but once Merrick Garland was confirmed as Attorney General, the authorization for the search was allowed.

That means it is likely they really are targeting him in a criminal investigation. It looks like they’re trying to tag him with a claim of working for the Ukrainians, thus potentially violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act, or FARA, which makes it a federal crime to try to influence or lobby the United States government at the request or direction of a foreign official without registering as a foreign agent.

This search raises the question of whether this is a retaliatory effort for Giuliani’s investigations related to Hunter Biden and his Ukrainian connections.

It’s also particularly concerning not just as potential retaliation against Giuliani but because he is the lawyer to President Donald Trump and likely has had all sorts of private conversations with him which may be reflected in the phone.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York and the FBI are not commenting on the report.

People are already calling it a weaponizing of the Justice Department.
