David Hogg Quits the Pillow Fight With Mike Lindell

You may recall the story of the pillow fight picked by anti-gunner David Hogg against My Pillow head Mike Lindell.

Hogg declared in February that he was going to take on Lindell by forming his own pillow company called “Good Pillow” and prove that progressives could “make a better pillow and run a better business” than conservatives and put My Pillow out of business. Lindell is a big supporter of President Donald Trump, so it was billed as a battle of the progressives against the conservatives.

As my colleague Jeff Charles reported, Hogg apparently didn’t even know enough to trademark the name of the company.

Hogg also couldn’t find a unionized pillow manufacturer.

So, how did all that work out?

Hogg just announced on Twitter that he’s now pulling out of the company. That didn’t take long.

“The goal was and still is to create a great pillow that is sustainably produced in domestic unionized factories and have a percentage of those profits benefit progressive social causes.”

But he confessed in a Twitter thread that it was just all too much for him, and he was leaving it in the hands of his co-founder William LeGate.

“We were met with immediate and overwhelming support. But I soon realized that given my activism, schoolwork, and family commitments, I could not give 100% to being a full time co-founder at Good Pillow…

Effective immediately, I have resigned and released all shares, any ownership and any control of Good Pillow LLC.I want to thank Will for his partnership and wish him absolutely nothing but success with the future of Good Pillow…I will be taking some time to focus on my studies in college and advance the gun violence prevention movement with March For Our Lives and personally…

Serving as an advocate and activist is just one (major) part of my life. I do hope to one day shape our global community to become more aware, progressive and equitable through social entrepreneurship and other avenues in the future. While the tragedy and trauma I experienced does shape me, like many other survivors of gun violence, it is not even close to who I am fully and I am looking forward to using this time to grow myself as an organizer, friend, son, and brother.”

Not a huge surprise, that. He declared it a contest and then never came across.

He found out that actually running a company takes time and effort. That talking smack on Twitter, as is his way, isn’t really going to get pillows made and sold. So, he really wasn’t up for all the effort and work that goes into all that. That you’re not just handed success and people aren’t going to throw money at you — at least not enough to sustain a company.
