Back in January, we wrote about the effort by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca) to take away President Donald Trump’s military authority with an underhanded secret reach out to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Gen. Mark A. Milley.

According to The NY Times:

In a phone call to the chairman, Gen. Mark A. Milley, Ms. Pelosi appeared to be seeking to have the Pentagon leadership essentially remove Mr. Trump from his authorities as the commander in chief. That could be accomplished by ignoring the president’s orders or slowing them by questioning whether they were issued legally. [….]

Mr. Trump, they noted, is still the commander in chief; unless he is removed, the military is bound to follow his lawful orders. While military officials can refuse to carry out orders they view as illegal — or slow the process by sending those orders for careful legal review — they cannot remove the president from the chain of command. That would amount to a military coup, the officials said.

She told other Democrats that she sought “to discuss available precautions for preventing an unstable president from initiating military hostilities or accessing the launch codes and ordering a nuclear strike.”

So she was essentially fomenting a coup against the president but somehow that was ok but she could impeach Trump for something she never even produced evidence for or held a hearing over in the House? But magical “D” at the end of the name so it’s obviously all cool if she was trying to engineer a coup.

The Speaker of the House doesn’t have any right to interfere in the chain of command between the president and the military and had they acceded to her wishes there could have been a big problem. There’s no way any of that was proper or even close to being constitutional.

But thankfully, Judicial Watch is on it and isn’t letting it go.

According to Townhall, they’ve asked for:

“[A]ny and all records regarding, concerning, or related to the telephone call between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and General Mark Milley on or about January 8, 2021,” and “any and all transcripts, recordings, and/or summaries of the call, as well as any other records produced in preparation for, during, and/or pursuant to the call.” Judicial Watch is also looking for “any and all additional records of communication between Gen. Milley and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi between November 1, 2020, and the present.” [….]

“If Speaker Pelosi’s description of her conversation with General Milley is true, it sets a dangerous precedent that could undermine the president’s role as commander in chief and the separation of powers,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said about the lawsuit. “Our new lawsuit aims to uncover the truth about the call.”
