Patients' Rights Group Lauds Trump for 'Radical' Health Care Executive Order That's Long Overdue

So have you ever picked up a prescription — for yourself, an elderly parent, or whomever — and first been shocked by the cost, then rolled it around in your mind for a bit, trying to figure out how on God's green earth it cost that much? Me, too — along with tens of millions of other Americans.

Look, I understand the tens of millions of dollars, if not billions in some cases, that pharmaceutical companies invest in years of research and development before bringing prescription drugs to market, but at what point are those costs recouped, and more importantly from a consumer's perfective, when is the price reduced -- or should be -- accordingly?

The conundrum might soon be solved — or at least a major step in that direction.

As RedState in reported in late February, President Trump's executive order titled "Making America Healthy Again by Empowering Patients with Clear, Accurate, and Actionable Healthcare Pricing Information," requires health care providers to provide patients with price transparency by directing federal agencies to enforce and expand upon the requirements of Trump's 2019 executive order, "Improving Price and Quality Transparency in American Healthcare to Put Patients First."

The January EO mandates the Departments of the Treasury, Labor, and Health and Human Services to take specific actions within 90 days, requiring, in part, disclosure of actual prices of services and prescription drugs instead of just estimates, standardization and comparability, and enhanced enforcement policies.

The EO is intended to address previous challenges due to incomplete or inconsistent data, which often hinders a patient's ability to make informed decisions.

In recognition of Trump's latest EO, a patients' rights advocacy group is sponsoring mobile billboards in front of the White House and the Department of Health and Human Services to thank the president and his administration.

The PatientRightsAdvocacy.org billboard campaign was inspired by Trump’s drive to require more transparency throughout the healthcare industry. The campaign was previously rolled out in Times Square on Monday and is expected to run until May 4.

Cynthia Fisher, the organization's founder and CEO, told The Daily Wire:

The magnitude of President Trump’s delivering ‘radical’ price transparency in healthcare is historic. Patients soon will have access to actual prices, not estimates, before they receive care.

Prices create a functional market where the consumer benefits from competition and choice to lower costs. Soon, patients will be able to shop for the best quality of care at the best price.

A 2021 article published by BMJ Open, a peer-reviewed open-access medical journal dedicated to publishing medical research from all disciplines and therapeutic areas, reported that 75 percent of pharmaceutical companies failed to meet basic transparency measures, and that 40 percent failed to fully comply with FDAAA reporting requirements.

That is both alarming and hardly a surprise.

I'm still thinking about that billboard campaign.

Seems to me a perfect place to stop before ending the campaign would be in the streets in front of the homes of prominent Democrats — beginning with Senate Minority Leader Chuck "Constitutional Crisis" Schumer.

Editor's Note: President Trump is leading America into the "Golden Age" as Democrats try desperately to stop it.
