President Donald Trump signed an executive order on March 1, 2025, designating English as America's official language. While some on the left predictably lost their minds, roughly 180 countries have at least one official language.
On Monday, Trump was expected to take a further "official language" step by signing an executive order that ensures commercial truckers are adept at speaking English, according to an exclusive report by Breitbart.
Not to digress, but how about signing an executive order ensuring that operators on 800 numbers can do the same, or is that too much to ask for?
According to document, per Breitbart:
President Trump believes that English is a non-negotiable safety requirement for professional drivers, as they should be able to read and understand traffic signs, communicate with traffic safety officers, border patrol, agricultural checkpoints, and cargo weight-limit station personnel, and provide and receive feedback and directions in English.
Totally. And those 800-number "helpers?"
Under the president's order, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy will be directed “to rescind and replace guidance to strengthen inspection procedures for compliance with English proficiency requirements,” according to the White House document.
As I suggested at the top, I can hear holier-than-thou Democrats now, absurdly and histrionically declaring Trump's EO to be "racist" and worse, which indirectly suggests that citizens of this country shouldn't have a right to expect those with whom they interact, at least on a business level, to speak and understand this country's official language.
According to the document, an existing federal standard that commercial drivers read and speak English “has not been enforced,” hence the expected EO “mandates revising out-of-service criteria to ensure drivers violating English proficiency rules are placed out-of-service, enhancing roadway safety.”
In addition, per the document, Duffy will be directed to improve the working conditions of truck drivers through “additional administrative, regulatory, or enforcement actions” under the EO.

Trump's March order declaring English America's official language reads, in part:
To promote unity, cultivate a shared American culture for all citizens, ensure consistency in government operations, and create a pathway to civic engagement, it is in America’s best interest for the Federal Government to designate one — and only one — official language. Establishing English as the official language will not only streamline communication but also reinforce shared national values, and create a more cohesive and efficient society.
Beyond reasonable, totally sensible, and way past time, but here's the thing:
Words are meaningless without relevant actions. Trump is scheduled to sign the trucker executive order in the Oval Office at 5:00 p.m. ET on Monday, which will be an actionable step in the right direction in what I hope will be the first of more relevant EOs to come.
Oh, and those 800 numbers?
