Democracy Dies in Groupthink, Democrat Party Hardest Hit

From nations to economies to corporations and boards of directors, "democracy" (open discussion and debate, rule-making, and more) dies in groupthink, marked by fear of retribution for speaking one's mind on positions and policies that run contrary to the groupthink position.

Nowhere in America is this truer than with today's Democrat Party. Yet the Democrats aren't the Lone Rangers in succumbing to groupthink, a reality that I'll reserve for a later article.

The pursuit of truth — from science to politics to most everything in society —is dependent on the freedom to explore alternatives if warranted before (and after) critical decisions are made or imported policies are implemented.

In order to pursue truth, particularly facts, as opposed to predisposed opinions and beliefs (the bane of existence), people — particularly those with vested interests — should be free to explore all valid options, even those that might be unpopular, without fear of recrimination.

This of course doesn't mean that all opinions and positions should be given the same weight; only that shutting people down or out for disagreeing with our beliefs not only leads to frustration, anger, and worse, it also sometimes means that the best ideas of positions aren't heard. Make that: not listened to or considered.

For example, I have to believe there are at least a few sensible members left in the Democrat Party in Congress- sensible people who believe in their hearts that larger, stronger males pretending to be females should not be allowed to compete with females in female sporting events.

Yet, if a objective congressional Democrat (sounds a bit oxymoronic, doesn't it?) were to publicly come out against pretend-women completing in women's sports, he or she would be ripped to shreds like nobody's business — by virtue-signaling Democrat colleagues, the quasi-official Democrat state press, and leftists on social media.

In another example, I have to think there are intelligent Democrat politicians who privately admit their party has left the American people; not the other way around — and those who know that obsessively referring to Donald Trump throughout the 2024 presidential election campaign as "Hitler," a "fascist," a "white supremacist," and other ridiculous ad hominem attacks, was not only a losing strategy; it also likely delivered to Trump a larger, broader, and more decisive win that he might not have enjoyed if the Democrats had wised up and knocked off their divisive nonsense.

Yet still, many iDemocrats, including the lapdog media, continue to demonstrate "all of the above," with gusto, because only the Republican Party, ever-evil Fox News, and conservative alternative media, call them out on their B.S., while the sensible among their ranks remain silent, perhaps out of fear that Democrats like Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), and others of their ilk, will try to destroy them if they don't continue to toe the left's line.

In other words, groupspeak, not just groupthink, must be preserved.

TikTok influencer, author, and public speaker Melissa Hughes also wrote in a December 2024 article titled "The Psychology of Groupthink and the Dangerous Desire for Consensus" that the primary risk associated with the groupthink decision-making process is that there is no room for alternative viewpoints, criticism, or facts.

The group becomes convinced of its own correctness, regardless of the facts.

That, gang, is the exact essence of today's Democrat Party.

From anthropomorphic climate change, to Critical Race Theory, to the belief that people (including young children) can decide they're not the gender they were "assigned" at birth (or any singular gender at all), to on-demand abortion up until what would have been the moment of birth, to the obscene belief that males beating the bejesus out of females in women's sports is somehow a "protected right" (of women, no less), the Democrat Party line must toed by all Democrats — and those who speak out or refuse to toe that line are be ridiculed, discredited, or ultimately destroyed.

A sobering thought? Not at all.

That is, if the Republican Party continues to take the high road, if it continues to shoot straight with the American people, and if it stays out of the mud and refuses to behave like Democrats, everything, as Donald Trump continually suggests, will turn out just fine.
