In addition to being infamous for her ridiculous word salads, embattled, do-nothing Vice President Kamala Harris is as tone-deaf as they come. When she's not giddily laughing about yellow school buses or Venn diagrams, she's likely cluelessly displaying how out of touch she truly is.

Harris provided a perfect example of the latter on Saturday.

Harris marked the third anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol protests by delivering a speech in South Carolina in which she blasted the Republican Party. The state's Democrat primary will be held on Feb. 3.

Given that Jan. 6 has become a veritable religious holiday for the Democrat Party, Harris spoke with all of the solemnity required for such significant anniversaries.

Three years ago today, on Jan. 6, 2021, when a mob violently attacked the United States Capitol they used brutal force and fear to try to overturn the results of a free and fair election. They tried to overrule the votes of millions of Americans.

On that day, we saw violence, chaos, and lawlessness, but some so-called leaders still tried to mislead and gaslight by saying it was a peaceful protest.

A bit hyperbolic, Kamala, but we expect nothing less — or should that be more? — from you. As for "peaceful protests," I take it you mean the same way your party hilariously tried to portray the deadly post-George Floyd/BLM riots as "peaceful protests?"

Kamala Harris accuses Republicans of trying "to silence the voice of the people":

Yes. Astonishingly, as Democrat-run states continue to try their damnedest to keep former President Donald Trump off state ballots, Harris accused Republicans of “trying to silence” voters. 

We fight to protect the sacred freedom to vote while they try to silence the voice of the people.

Oh, please. Again, unless those people are Republicans. Here's more:

Although Biden is not facing serious competition for the Democratic presidential nomination, polls show he has lost some support from Black voters nationwide. A strong primary turnout in a state where the majority of Democratic voters are Black would calm fears about his electability among the party. 

Before an audience of hundreds of mostly Black women church leaders, Harris said the audience’s support had lifted Biden to the White House and led to the expansion of postpartum care and the replacement of lead pipes in largely Black communities. She said some Republicans intended to roll back their reproductive healthcare and voting rights.

It was classic Kamala Harris: 

Let us not throw up our hands. It is time to roll up our sleeves, Harris implored her audience. We were born for a time such as this and we love our country.

We believe in the principles upon which we were founded. And guided by our faith, we are prepared to fight for those principles. With hope, with optimism, and with faith. When we fight, we win.

U-huh. "Guided by her faith," Harris supports on-demand abortion — right up until the moment of birth.

Madam Vice President blathered on, incessantly gaslighting as she spoke:

On one side, they want to ban books. On the other side, we want to ban assault weapons. They think the government should tell a woman what to do with her body. We trust women, and women trust us to protect their fundamental freedoms.

As Vice President, I was able to confront the issue of maternal mortality and Black maternal mortality and to challenge states to expand Medicaid coverage for postpartum care from 2 months to 12 months. 

And now, instead of only three states, I am pleased to report [that] 42 states now offer women a full year of coverage, including the women of South Carolina.

Listen, I understand that virtually nothing this woman has to say is newsworthy. However, Horry County, S.C., Republican Chairman Reese Boyd had plenty to say in response to Harris's visit:

It is unfortunate that the president and the vice president can find nothing else to run on, so the appear to be creating a campaign for reelection that is based on a platform of demonizing "MAGA Republicans" as an existential threat to American Democracy. That is sad and absurd.

But when you look at the economy, the southern border, what's happening on the international stage, what happened in Afghanistan, and what is now happening in Ukraine, what do they have to show for three years in office? 

It's understandable why the president is now seeking to demonize [former] President Trump and Mr. Trump's "MAGA Republican" supporters. It's a very sad day for America, but it's understandable. When you think about it, what other cards does the president have? 

Fortunately, most Americans see through this and realize that the president is talking about them. So we don't think this strategy is one that is going to resonate with many South Carolinians.

Is Boyd right? Of course, he is.

The Bottom Line

Do most or many voters across the country see through the 2024 Democrat strategy lies and smoke and mirrors? One — an objective one, anyway — would hope they do, by now. And if not? God help us all, come November.

Incidentally, as my colleague Bob Hoge reported on Sunday, a new CBS News/YouGov poll found that an astonishing 81 percent of Democrats think Trump should be removed from state ballots before the presidential election.
