Kamala Harris Becomes Biden's Face of Abortion — a Gig for Which She's a 'Natural Leader'

In little more than two years, Kamala Harris has held various positions in the Biden administration (some of them self-inflicted), from Joe Biden’s miserably-failed border czar to cackling court jester to Word Salad Kammie to now, a position in which she might actually excel — for all the wrong reasons.

As reported by NBC News, Harris has become the White House’s “unflinching face of a battle to protect what it sees as a cherished women’s right.” Translation: on-demand abortion with virtually no exceptions.

As NBC sees it, the seemingly useless vice president is finally in a position where she can demonstrate she’s a “natural leader.” The fawning continued:

The White House combats renewed Republican efforts to curb abortion through the courts with Harris as the unflinching face of a battle to protect what it sees as a cherished women’s right, according to interviews with two dozen present and past administration officials, Democratic strategists, and people close to Harris.

[…]

With Biden away in Ireland, Harris led an administration task force meeting at the White House on Wednesday, rolling out new privacy protections meant to thwart efforts to sue or investigate those who facilitate abortions. Tuesday she is set to travel to Reno, Nevada, and lead a roundtable conversation on reproductive health care.

Harris has hosted scores of events since it became apparent last year that the Supreme Court would overturn Roe v. Wade. Looking ahead, she is set to hold at least one event a week focused on reproductive rights, a person familiar with the matter said, keeping the issue front and center.

It appears that abortion has proved to be somewhat of a winning ballot box issue for Democrats in the aftermath of the Dobbs decision, particularly in the 2022 midterm elections, which many easily over-excitable keyboard jockeys gleefully predicted would be a “red wave.” I was not among them, instead suggesting that the election would be closer than a Donald Trump-Kari Lake hug.

And as we reported in early April, the left capitalized on a sharply contested Wisconsin Supreme Court race that hinged partly on abortion access, with the court flipping to left-wing control for the first time in 15 years.

It’s been said over the years that Social Security is the third rail of politics. While probably true, abortion runs a close second. Needless to say, I have thoughts. First, there exist four things among mankind that can be banned or outlawed until the cows come home, but they’ll never go away: prostitution, alcohol, drugs, and abortion. That is simply reality.

That said, the Republican Party runs a risk of running afoul of even many mainstream voters who oppose the “outlaw” of abortion, and thus support “legal” abortion. Here’s where we run into a sticky wicket.

As the old axiom suggests, perception is more important than facts.

The Democrat Party has demonstrated for decades its superior ability to shape public perception with disingenuous buzzwords and phrases, half-truths, and worse. For example, while the left wails ad nauseam that a majority of Americans believe abortion should be legal, a majority also believes abortion should be legal — with certain restrictions. Yet, 49 out of 50 Senate Democrats in December voted in favor of legislation that included the “right” to on-demand abortion until the moment of birth.

While, as a pro-life conservative, I find the above abhorrent, I also know that restrictions on abortion deemed “too strict” by a majority of voters play directly into the Democrats’ ballot box hand. Don’t misunderstand: I’m not suggesting conservatives should choose election wins over immorality, but I am suggesting that without conservatives winning the majority in elections at all levels, the left’s attack on the unborn will only worsen.

Anyway, the Biden administration’s new “unflinching face” of abortion said, as she opened a recent task force meeting:

We are having an experience where the women of America, in particular, have been in a state of fear about what this means for them and what this means for the people they love.

Except for the unborn, that is — correct, Madam Vice President?

Still, NBC News continued to fawn:

Cornell Belcher, a Democratic pollster and political analyst, said that Harris’ ratings reflect Biden’s and that they rise and fall together. “The idea that her approval numbers are the problem when his numbers are underwater is kind of missing the forest for the trees,” Belcher said. “No vice president in modern history’s numbers are going to be better than the guy who’s at the top of the ticket.”

That said, some believe if she improves her image by promoting an issue uniquely important to women, younger voters and the Democratic base, she can give the ticket a lift.

One Democratic fundraiser who said he respects and supports Harris recalls multiple conversations with donors while seeking contributions for an event in Pennsylvania. Over and over, people would say: “I hope he [Biden] is going to make a change in the ticket,” the person said.

He’s not; the two play complementary roles and she’s a favorite of constituencies important to the Democratic Party, her allies said.

Leah Daughtry, a Democratic political strategist with close ties to Harris’ office, told NBC that the ongoing battle over abortion rights is a “timely coincidence.”

All of these things collide in a perfect storm of opportunity that will have an impact on the upcoming elections.

So there it is. The empress has new clothes, America. How will they fit? Only time will tell, but I’ll bet you a dollar that Word Salad Kammie’s horrendous communication skills aren’t going to improve a damn, simply because she has a new gig — for which she’s perfectly qualified.
