As we’re wont to do here at RedState, I usually include several links to our recent relevant articles in current articles to provide background, proof-sourcing, or other information I deem pertinent to my article.
This time, given the importance of the topic at hand and the plethora of facts and opinions — a veritable cornucopia, as it were — about said topic, I’m going to write this article “backward” — with relevant links at the beginning, just to give y’all a quick sense of where this issue stands. In RedState’s eyes, that is.

So, as the 2021 UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow comes to an end on Friday (today), it’s time to sum up the goings-on and come to a few conclusions, as is usually the case with these sorts of important global shindigs. And who better than CBS — the network of Walter Cronkite, Edward R. Murrow, and Heckle & Jeckle cartoons, of course — to check in with for a responsible take on the summit?
As reported by Fox News on Friday, Mark Phillips, CBS News Senior Foreign Correspondent, filed a scathing report on the summit during a segment on “CBS Mornings.” (Is that still on?)
“We’re into the final hours of this conference without it having achieved its major objectives,” Phillips lamented, no doubt crestfallen by the lack of “good” climate news.
“[T]here’s been disappointment. The hope that delegates here would agree [on] concrete plans to cut greenhouse gas emissions and limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius has proved a false one.
“The latest estimate is that the real cuts promised so far would still allow the earth to heat up to around 2.7 degrees, with all the heat waves, droughts, fires, storms, and floods that would bring.”
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Never gets old, does it?
Phillips then brought up one of the more ridiculous objectives that failed to gain traction at the summit: “Developed” countries paying “developing” countries for not using fossil fuels — as if the economies of said “developing” countries provide sufficient goods, services, and capital for their respective populations to buy gasoline, propane, and other fossil fuels to the extent it makes much of a difference, one way or the other.
Phillips did point to an agreement between the U.S. and China that China would “seek to cut” methane, but the veteran correspondent said there was “not a lot of meat on the bone” of the deal. But given the lack of trustworthiness of China, what difference would it make, either way?
Biden, of course, went full metal Biden, apologizing to the world for Donald Trump wisely pulling out of the equally hollow Paris Agreement, leading China to ridicule the “noble” apology of the “powerless’ Biden.

For his part, John Kerry, the first United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate [ROFL emoji] raised the kind of eyebrows he loves to raise at these sorts of get-togethers by ridiculously announcing that the United States “won’t have coal” by 2030 — less than nine years from now.
However, retired U.S. Army Intelligence Officer Tony Shaffer begged to differ with Biden’s intrepid climate poobah, as only the self-described “snarky bastard” can:
Ole Bolt Neck is wrong…CO2 is not a problem at the US is not giving up clean coal @JohnKerry, who produces more carbon than a city due to his private jets and estates is a fascist idiot: Kerry tells COP26 climate summit US ‘won’t have coal’ by 2030
It appears that Tony Shaffer is not on John and Teresa’s Christmas card list.

To Shaffer’s point, political cartoonist Michael Ramirez nailed it — and Kerry — as well.
“Maybe they should ban climate control conferences?”

Speaking of the climate envoy, let’s do a quick “Circle-Back” Psaki move and revisit the U.S.-China agreement on methane I mentioned earlier. I doubt that jet-setting Kerry would give a damn if China were to renege on the deal immediately. He would no doubt shrug his Lurch shoulders and say, “Hey — we tried. It’s up to them to adhere to the agreement,” in a typical Kerry move.
Finally, as the CBS correspondent wrapped up his report on the climate show, he said:
“There’s still time for a miracle, of course, a last-minute breakthrough, but I have to say there’s very little hint of a miracle in the air here. Just too much carbon dioxide.”
Yeah, let’s call it that.
