The two words most likely to send Democrat lawmakers into hysterical hissy fits, these days? “Joe Manchin.” A quick trip through Twitter makes the point. In many cases, the left’s reaction to everything Manchin does or says is the same kind of nonsense we saw for four years — except “Donald Trump” has been replaced with “Joe Manchin.”
The current “Manchin histrionics” are the result of the West Virginia senator’s refusal to back his Democrat colleagues’ hypocritical push to abolish the filibuster, and refusal to support the laughably misnomered For the People Act, federal voting rights legislation that would further tip voting laws in favor of the Democrats — in all 50 states.
Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) was in a near-apoplectic meltdown during an appearance on Thursday’s broadcast of ABC’s “GMA3,” saying — with a straight face: “We no longer live in a democracy. We live under the tyranny of Joe Manchin.” Pathetic and hilarious.

Because of the tyranny of Joe Manchin, America, “a 21st century FDR moment” will be squandered. (Although that’s somewhat true, albeit for entirely different reasons than Torres believes or is most likely capable of understanding.)
“Look, we no longer live in a democracy. We live under the tyranny of Joe Manchin. So, we are all at the whim of Joe Manchin. As far as infrastructure is concerned, I’m in favor of going through reconciliation, which is exempt from the filibuster.
“I feel like we live in the makings of an FDR moment. We have an opportunity to govern as boldly in the 21st century as FDR did in the 20th century and I feel like we should go through reconciliation and make the boldest possible investments in the future of America.”
Every word of the above is completely ridiculous, of course — and it couldn’t be more hypocritical. To listen to the Democrats, the filibuster is the Devil’s instrument. “Surprisingly,” they didn’t seem to feel that way in 2020 — when they used it 327 times; compared to just once by the Republicans. Very confusing. [sarc]
After @POTUS @JoeBiden denounced the rampant abuse of the filibuster last year, we did some digging. Republicans used it once. Democrats used it 327 times. @FoxNews

From the Washington Examiner:
President Joe Biden has been increasingly critical of the Senate filibuster, calling it a Jim Crow relic and saying it has been widely abused despite Democrats using it over 300 times in 2020, compared to once by Republicans.
Biden also expressed frustration with how often the filibuster has been used and specifically took issue with how it was “abused” last year.
“I was going to give you the statistics, but you probably know them, that it used to be that — that from between 1917 to 1971, the filibuster existed, there was a total of 58 motions to break a filibuster that whole time,” Biden said in the press conference. “Last year alone, there were 5 times that many. So it’s being abused in a gigantic way.”
Only in the mind of a Democrat can something go from a useful tool to a “relic” in a year.
It gets even funnier — more hypocritical, that is, as Washington Examiner reported.
In 2005, Biden argued against the elimination of the filibuster, which many Democrats are encouraging now in order to push legislation through the 50-50 split in the Senate.
“It is not only a bad idea, it upsets the constitutional design, and it disservices the country,” then-Sen. Biden said at the time about eliminating the practice.
“No longer would the Senate be that ‘different kind of legislative body’ that the founders intended. No longer would the Senate be the ‘saucer’ to cool the passions of the immediate majority.”
None of this is a surprise, of course.
Month after month following the 2016 presidential election, as Hillary Clinton and her Democrat colleagues continued to whine about the “archaic” Electoral College and how it no longer served “our Democracy” — Democrats still don’t get the fact that the United States is a federal republic, not a democracy — I sometimes amused myself with a Democrat by asking if Hillary & Co. would have thrown the same fit if the results had been reversed — if Trump had won the popular vote and Hillary, the EC vote.
Would Hillary and the Dems still have believed the EC was “unfair,” “undemocratic,” and should be abolished? Rhetorical question, of course.
Anyway, as reported by left-wing rag Daily Beast, Torres further pressed his illogical argument on some random left-wing podcast:
“The structure of the Senate is keeping us frozen in the past. You know, the notion that one U.S. senator who represents a state one-fourth the size of New York City has the power to derail the priorities of Democratic majorities in the House and the Senate and a Democratic president is absurd. It’s an indictment of just how profoundly broken our system has become.”
Again, in the eyes of the “progressive” Democrat, “the past” is archaic. It no longer serves “our” (their) needs. “It’s an indictment of just how profoundly broken our system has become.” No, genius, it’s a testament to how a federal republic is supposed to work.
