On Saturday, Nov 7, after the media had declared Joe Biden the winner of the 2020 presidential election, he tweeted a lofty message to the people of America:

“America, I’m honored that you have chosen me to lead our great country. The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this:

“I will be a president for all Americans — whether you voted for me or not. I will keep the faith that you have placed in me.”

“It’s time for America to unite,” he told us. “And to heal. We are the United States of America. And there’s nothing we can’t do if we do it together.”

And on Monday, December 14, after the Electoral College had cemented his win, Biden said, “Now it is time to turn the page, to unite, to heal.”

As is the case with all presidents — some more than others — Biden’s words were no doubt the lofty words of speechwriters, vs. words he himself had written. This is not to suggest he didn’t mean what he tweeted or said (wink-wink). For the sake of argument, let’s (pretend to) assume he did. Let’s assume he meant all of the “healing,” “unity,” and other such “togetherness” stuff. Except the problem being, he has had an odd way of showing it.

Biden’s “unity” and “healing” has consisted of signing executive order after executive order at a world-record clip — no need to bother with messy legislation, you know — in a dogged effort to cancel as much of Trump’s presidency as he can. And the Senate’s party-line vote on a $1.9 trillion COVID package last week, with Kamala Harris breaking the 50-50 tie?

“An easy choice,” Biden said.

The reality is, when the Left talks of such things — “unity,” “turning the page,” “healing,” “tolerance,” and all such forms of Kumbaya-sounding rhetoric — their proposition — which is actually a demand — is a one-way street:

You tolerate Us.

We are to tolerate — better yet, embrace or endorse — their beliefs, policies, causes, and morals or lack thereof. And when we fail to do so? We are promptly labeled (take your pick): “bigoted,” “racist,” “white supremacist,” “xenophobic,” “homophobic,” “transphobic,” “Islamophobic,” “misogynistic,” and worse.

When I learned on Saturday that Bruce Springsteen had, at long last, agreed to appear in a Super Bowl commercial — ad agencies had reportedly been trying to make it happen for more than ten years — I was struck by two things: his music (of which I have been a yuuge fan from the beginning), and his politics (of which I have never been a yuuge fan.)

As has been the case with Biden’s “unifying” rhetoric, the theme of Springsteen’s Jeep commercial was “meet in the middle” and “common ground.” In a word, nonsense. Can you imagine “the Boss” doing that same commercial during Trump’s presidency? Me neither.

As is the case with unity, healing, coming together, and other such lofty words, “common ground” in the eyes of the Left is what they believe is or should be “common.” The mindset of the Left is based on moral relativism — the view that moral (and other) judgments are true or false, only relative to their viewpoint. Their values. Their judgments. Their “morals.”

In other words, “the tolerant Left” is anything but.

The hypocrisy of the Left’s call for “unity” and “tolerance” is made even sheerer by the politics of division they practice: identity politics, class warfare, race warfare, the mentality of “us against them.” For example:

Congressional Democrats impeach Donald Trump for “inciting violence,” yet Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Moron) calls on a mob to follow conservatives into restaurants and scream “You’re not wanted here!” at them.

Barack Obama tells us “I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money,” while he and his wife are worth somewhere north of $100 million and live on a $15 million estate on Martha’s Vineyard — far from the bloody streets of Chicago’s Southside where they both “worked” prior to his rise in politics.

Democrats are hellbent on curbing the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners while many wealthy liberals employ armed security guards, not to mention live behind secure walls while arguing against a wall on our southern border.

The Left opposes charter schools and parents having the right to choose the best school for their children, while leftist elites enroll their own children in the best private schools they can find.

The Democrats rail against “Wall Street” and “dark money” while Biden’s campaign took in $132 million in “anonymous contributions” compared to Trump’s $22 million.

Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Barack Obama, Joe Biden (reportedly worth more than $16 million), and other wealthy Democrats have no problem amassing wealth while demonizing others who are successful.

And the rest of us? We are to tolerate the Left’s hypocrisy. Why? Because.

Meanwhile, the second Senate impeachment trial charade against Donald Trump is scheduled to begin on Tuesday. With not only virtually zero chance of conviction but also which multiple constitutional scholars, including George Washington University Professor Jonathan Turley, say is unconstitutional.

“The tolerant Left.” It’s a thing.
