On a good day, Speaker Nancy Pelosi is ill-tempered, cantankerous, and all-around nasty over anything remotely related to President Donald Trump. On a bad day, she kicks the crazy up a notch or ten, launching into wild hyperbolic rants that boggle the rational mind.
The latter was the case on Monday night after Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation by Mitch McConnell’s Republican-controlled Senate, followed by a swearing-in ceremony at the White House administered by Justice Clarence Thomas, as a beaming Trump looked on.
President Trump and Senate Republicans have committed an act of supreme desperation: jamming through a Supreme Court nominee just eight days before Election Day as part of their years-long campaign to destroy Americans’ health care.

Following a confirmation that Pelosi and the Democrats knew was inevitable, the hyper-partisan Pelosi released a statement — in which she went full-metal-jacket Nancy Pelosi.
To kick things off, the histrionic Speaker said, “The President’s Supreme Court manipulation threatens the very values and rights that define and distinguish our nation.” Huh? Is that quintessential, meaningless Democrat hyperbole, or what? The best.
The President’s Supreme Court manipulation threatens the very values and rights that define and distinguish our nation. #SCOTUS

Let’s do a “deep dive” into Pelosi’s nonsensical statement, shall we?
“Eight days from Election Day, after 60 million Americans have already cast their ballots, President Trump and the GOP Senate have committed an act of supreme desperation by jamming through a Supreme Court justice – all so that they can achieve their years-long campaign to destroy Americans’ health care.”
Ridiculous. Again, quintessential Democrat nonsense. A “years-long campaign to destroy Americans’ health care”? How can I put this tactfully? What a load of crap. On the contrary, Republicans have sought to replace the so-called “Affordable” Care Act with a cost-effective private-sector alternative because of the failure of the ACA.
“Now, Americans must continue to make their voices heard in the election. Congress will have to reverse the damage of a radical Republican court and defend pre-existing condition protections together with every other benefit and protection of the Affordable Care Act.”
If by “radical Republican court,” Pelosi means a conservative-tilted Court that will follow the Constitution as written, vs. an activist Court (see: left-tilted courts) that would legislate from the bench in an attempt to affect change that Democrats are unable to affect via legislation, she’s correct. Otherwise, again, she’s full of crap. And no, Donald Trump and the Republicans do not want to eliminate coverage for pre-existing conditions, another favorite Democrat lie.
“With this usurped Supreme Court seat, the President is ripping away millions of families’ health care in the middle of a pandemic that has infected over 8.6 million and killed nearly one-quarter of a million Americans. In her confirmation hearing, Justice Barrett refused to answer whether she believes that Medicare is constitutional. She refused to acknowledge the scientific fact that climate change is happening, saying she isn’t a scientist, calling it ‘controversial.’”
Complete and utter nonsense. First, let’s go to Merriam-Webster for a definition of “usurp.”
“To seize and hold (office, place, functions, powers, etc.) in possession by force or without right; to take or make use of without right; to take the place of by or as if by force.”
See why rational people don’t take clown-car drivers like Nancy Pelosi seriously? Last time I checked, the constitutional obligation of the Executive and Legislative Branches of the federal government to fill a vacant Supreme Court does fall under the definition of “usurp.” The rest of that nonsensical paragraph about “ripping away millions of families’ healthcare,” etc. is not worthy of sane commentary.
“The President’s Supreme Court manipulation threatens the very values and rights that define and distinguish our nation: a woman’s constitutional right to make her own medical decisions, the rights of LGBTQ Americans, the right of workers to organize and collectively bargain for fair wages, the future of our planet and environmental protections, voting rights and the right of every American to have a voice in our democracy.”
Following the process to fill a vacant Supreme Court seat as proscribed by the Constitution is not “manipulation,” Madam Speaker. Nothing you describe is “threatened” by Amy Coney Barrett’s seat on the Court — unless, of course, a textualist-majority Court deems anything related to any of the above unconstitutional.
And finally.
“We must have a Congress that is prepared to remedy what the Supreme Court will do to undermine the health, financial security, and well-being of American families.”
There is nothing to “remedy.” And of course, the Court is not going to undermine the health, financial security, and well-being of American families, regardless of what Nancy Pelosi says in the middle of one of her petty little pity parties. When Democrats cannot win through the ballot box or the legislative process, they attempt to change the rules. Always have, always will.
Here’s Pelosi commiserating with fellow left-wing loon Chris Hayes on MSNBC last night.
“Well, I think – first, let me say, Chris, thank you for your focus on every aspect of what is happening here from the coronavirus and its connection to this, taking up this confirmation instead of taking up legislation to crush the virus.
“This is a very sad day for our country. Within the past 24 hours, we’ve seen the President of the United States say, in his delusional state, ‘We’ve rounded the curve on this. We’ve rounded the turn.’ We haven’t. […]
The delusion gets even worse.
Pelosi wasn’t the only Democrat who went off the rails following Barrett’s confirmation. As my colleague Jeff Charles reported, two members of the “Squad” — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) — made the same kind of dopey comments we’ve come to know and “love” — regarding what the Democrat should do about this “injustice” in the event that they regain control of the Senate.
And as my colleague Nick Arama reported, Hillary Clinton reacted in the same way her bitter self always reacts to anything Donald Trump; condescending, disingenuous, and lying. Speaking of Hillary, Monday was her birthday, prompting Jon Gabriel, editor-in-chief of Ricochet, to wish her a happy-happy.

Finally, as reported by my colleague Sister Toldjah, CNN collapsed into apoplectic meltdown over Barrett’s nomination as only The Most Trusted Name in News™ can do. Multiple other Democrats lost it, as well. Check back throughout the day for updates on the silliness.
In the meantime, congratulations to Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, the entire Senate Republican Caucus — except for Susan Collins of Maine — and most of all, Associate Justice Amy Coney Barrett.
